This week's so-called escape from the Outlander world was Michael Wallace's "The Red Rooster."
I don't when I acquired the book, because it had been a kindle freebie, but I see that it is now $3.99.
This suspense is set in German-occupied France during World War II. The main character is Gabriela, a young woman who is living a despairing existence as her entire goal is to help find/save her father (her only living relative) who had been captured by the Nazi's.
The antagonist is a the typical sadistic Gestapo agent, Hoekmann, whose ruthlessness and cruelty borrows from the typical stereotype of the Nazi.
Other characters include Christine, a fellow whore; Alfonso and Helmut, who both have slightly "Schindler-esque" qualities... and more so.
Would I read this book again? Probably not.
Do I regret the time spent reading it? Not really. It was kinda nice to read a nazi book that wasn't all camp life. It did give me a good idea of life during world war II from the eyes of a non-nazi/ non-Jew.
Would I recommend this? Sure.
Now, back to my outlander life. :)
