Room 438, Sunday late morning

Dean had kept both animals in his room last night and had made arrangements with Dawn for her to herd Sammy up here today. She'd called earlier, saying that they'd be up in about half an hour and Dean was putting the time to good use

Dawn had given up on speaking for the day, figuring that if she didn't say anything, she couldn't ruin the surprise. Instead, she was trying to coax Sam towards Dean's door using just various hand and head motions as she bounced her way down the hall.

Sam had been good, and hadn't interrogated Dawn when she got back from going to the mainland with Dean. But he was starting to wish that he had as she motioned him further down the hall. "If this is some sort of trap to make me do something embarrassing, I'm going to get you back for it," he said, snickering as he went up to Dean's door and knocked.

At the knock of the door, Dean gave up on the box idea and just picked the puppy up and put him in the bathroom. "Be quiet," he told it as he closed the door.

Then he went to open the door.

Sam glanced back and forth between Dawn and Dean as he opened the door. "Hey Dean," he said in greeting. "Tell me, do you know why Dawn is refusing to talk to me?"

"No," Dean said, with a wide grin. "You got a puppy."

"...what?"

[saltandammo]

"The puppy's yours. Merry Christmas."

All Sam could do at first was stare at the puppy in disbelief. "You're kidding, right?" Sam looked to Dawn for confirmation. "Is he serious?

"Sounds like it to me," Dean smirked.

"So what're you going to call him?"

[psychic_wonder]

"I don't know," Sam admitted. "He needs a really good name though."

[saltandammo]

"Yeah," Dean agreed, moving to sit on the bed as he watched his brother with the puppy. "I'm sure you'll come up with something great, geekboy."

"Dude, he's going to be living with you and Dawn. He's going to get an eyeful sooner or later."

"That's what the bathroom and play dates with other puppies are for," Dawn said calmly, then, because her curiosity got the better of her, asked, "And wait, Alec really purrs? Does that happen a lot, or just with..."

Sam put his head down, closing his eyes as he wished for temporary deafness. "Oh god, I don't want to know the answer to that question," he moaned.

Shooting his brother a wicked grin, Dean answered Dawn's question. "He realy does purr. But only in... ah.... certain situations."

After Sam and Dawn Leave

Alec dropped by next, having gone for a bit of a careful run and grabbing some food. He knocked once, just enough to announce his presence, then tried the door to find it open and walked inside. "Hey, you home?"

"Hey," Dean greeted him with a smile. He was lying on his back on the bed with a small grey ball of fluff on his chest.

Dean picked up the ball of fluff and turned it towards Alec so he could see it was a kitten. "Alec, this is Hunter. Hunter this is Alec."
