A/N: Written for rainbowfilling. Prompt “Emergency”

"Oi. Get your butt up here and help me."

Aiba blinked his bleary eyes open in the dim light illuminating the room through the bedroom curtains.

"Eh?"

"Pick up the wooden planks from the yard while I work, will you? They're getting in the way."

Aiba might have protested…had there been anyone left in the bedroom to protest to. Jun had already walked out and a moment later his exit was followed by the sound of the slamming front door.

With no one to voice his complaint to, Aiba obediently dragged himself out of bed and pulled on the closest pair of jeans and t-shirt he could find while stifling a yawn. Today was the day Jun had decided to redo the garden and clean up the garbage pilling up in the yard (which mostly belonged to Aiba and his experiments). He'd planned the tidying-up weeks in advance to find a day they both were off and had enough time. But after they had gone to bed, Aiba found that he couldn't sleep, so he'd gotten back up and finished the suspense novel he'd been reading to prepare for his upcoming drama. By the time he'd gone to bed it was three-thirty in the morning.

His blurry eyes riffled through the clock as he slipped on his slippers by the door. 8:24AM.

The sunshine at 8:24 in the morning was pleasantly warm and mild. The forecast yesterday had predicted that there would be some drizzling rain in the midafternoon but there actually wasn't a single cloud in the sky. Aiba walked to the back of the house, taking a moment to admire his view from the behind as Jun bent over, gathering wooden planks in his arms. The ground below him was littered with bits of sand and planks, the obvious results of Aiba’s last week experiments.

Aiba started with the damp planks, collecting them into piles and then carrying them out to the front yard for the garbage man. After the fourth trip, he was rewarded with the sight of Jun's shirtless torso, standing on the ground, finishing the water bottle in a single gulp.

"Good morning." Aiba merely greeted, pressing his lips chastely to the other man's as he passed by. Just because it was a chaste kiss, did not make it any less desirable for Aiba. Sometimes simplicity was just as pleasurable as passion.

"Morning."

Jun pulled away to get back to work and frowned suddenly. "What are you wearing there?"

Aiba had to follow Jun's gaze to his own feet to figure out what it was that he was referring to.

"There're rusty nails in that garbage. Go get some proper shoes on."

Aiba flashed a brilliant smile. "Is Jun-kun worried about me?"

Jun's thick eyebrows only formed into a deepened frown. "Of course I am worried, what are you gonna do if you step on something?" he demanded.

"Now why would I do that?" Aiba returned with a laugh.

"Don’t come crying to me if you step on one then." Jun huffed.

Aiba smiled at his retreating form. If Jun ever knew how many times he'd retreated from arguments over the years living with Aiba, his pride would completely be shot. Well, he’d better not mention it over dinner to Jun then.

Deciding to speed up and finish cleaning up the yard so that he could go back to bed and get a little more sleep, Aiba started gathering up the broken pieces of wood, mindful of the rusted nails sticking out of them. He piled them in his arms, each with nails facing away from him but when he stepped back to pick up a piece laying behind him, he felt a sharp pain in the heel of his foot. Aiba's shoulders tensed at the pain as he lifted his foot away from its source and frowned deeply.

Of course he would step on a nail right after Jun had warned him about it.

Aiba might be a careless idiot who ignored his boyfriend’s word and therefore had to reap what he sowed, but he had a little pride in him too, so he bore the pain and took his load back to the front of the house, forcing himself to walk without a wince past Jun's watchful gaze.

"I'm going to go ahead and put those shoes on." he called up to Jun on his way inside. "I'll be back in a minute."

The only indication that Jun had heard him was that he looked away from him and went back to his work.

In the house, Aiba groaned and limped to the bathroom sink, raising his foot up to the counter so he could see the damage. There was a lot more blood than he thought there would be, he hadn't felt it gathering beneath his foot but there was a small pool of blood on his slipper and his foot didn't seem to stop the bleeding any time soon.

Reaching for a washcloth from the cupboard, he ran it over the cold water and cleaned the wound, pressing harshly until it finally stopped bleeding. He found they were out of Neosporin when he looked in the medicine cabinet, so he stuck a bandage over his heel and went in search of a pair of socks to wear with his shoes.

Then he went out and finished picking up the yard. On the last trip, Jun leaned over from his spot, looking at him with a concerned frown.

"Go back to bed."

"But I'm awake now!" Aiba answered, straining a smile at him.

"I can tell that you're having trouble." Jun returned, the edge in his voice softened just enough to tell Aiba he was genuinely worried. "Just go back to bed before you strip and fall on your face."

Aiba nodded, his own smile softening in reply.

"I actually need to drop in the convenience store for something, and then I'll go back to bed. Do you need anything?"

"No."

Aiba nodded and took his last load to the garbage can. Then he drove to the small store near by their house and bought a tube of Neosporin. Jun was waiting for him in the front door when he got back. He took hold of Aiba's arm in one hand and took the bag from him with the other.

Aiba mentally braced himself for the scowl that Jun gave to the bag in his hand when he discovered its contents.

"Let me see it."

Aiba sighed as he took a seat at the kitchen table and took off his shoes and the sock from his right foot. Jun brought a washcloth, the peroxide, and bandages and sat opposite Aiba, taking his foot onto his lap.

The bandage was red on the outside when Jun peeled it back and Aiba winced slightly at the sight. "It's not as bad as it looks." he said, reaching for the washcloth but Jun swatted his hand away and took the cloth himself, carefully cleaning the wound with it. Then he poured peroxide over the small cut, using the wet cloth to catch the runoff.

Aiba watched with dismay as the liquid bubbled around the wound. After a second round, Jun dried his foot and bandaged it with the Neosporin, but he kept Aiba's foot secured in his lap. Aiba thought, maybe he was deciding whether or not to scold him for it but Jun said nothing. Instead, he let the foot go a moment later and went to the sink to wash his hands. Then he went to the fridge and got the eggs and butter out.

"I'm making breakfast." Jun stated. "You want some?"

A cheerful smile spread itself on Aiba's face. "Sure."

Jun nodded and turned to get the frying pan out.

"Jun-kun, could you get me the strawberry jam? I don’t want eggs" Aiba asked, with just a hint of a pathetic whine.

"Don't push it." Jun snapped back. But he was already searching for the jam-jar in the fridge as he said it and Aiba's grin only widened. If he played all of his cards right, he might even get dessert too.

"Quit that Cheshire grinning of your." Jun complained, wrinkling his nose as he placed Aiba’s strawberry jam in front of him on the table. "Geeze, let me get something done today."

Aiba beamed happily at Jun's back as he went back to the stove. "Jun-kun knows me so well."

A/N2: Actually, this is meant to be posted before Feb 29. However, many things had happened in the amazing February, so in the end I failed to submit it for rainbowfilling. Guess I have to start the race again from this month, but it’s okay anyway.

Secondly, well, after writing this, I realized that it was gradually drifting away from the real theme. Isn’t it kind of giving a feeling of an “accident” instead of an “emergency”, right? Well, all I can say is, sorry, another failure of mine LOL
