The Book of Eli

I don’t know why Dian and I didn’t catch this one when it first came out.  We’re both huge fans of Denzel Washington, love watching the astonishing Gary Oldman ply his trade, and can even tolerate Mila Kunis for limited periods; so why didn’t we see this in a theater?  It wasn’t in 3D and did show locally.  Weird.

Anyway, we rented the disk and I gotta say it’s one of the better post-apocalyptic films I’ve ever seen and the absolute first movie I’ve ever - EVER - seen that got violence right.  It wasn’t glorified or made all mystical … it simply was.  The fight scenes were performed and filmed flawlessly, brilliantly.  If just for that, the movie would be worth every penny of a rental fee; the fact that it’s a great film overall is simply icing on the cake.

We even liked Mila Kunis’ acting.  It was that good.  (Hell, even Jennifer Beals - remember her? - had a great role in the film and played it to the nines!)

Rent it, see it, wonder about the ending.  (If you want to know what you should wonder about, ask me in the comments … don’t wanna toss in any spoilers here.)
