Well, this is a fine mess you got us into, Ollie!

Hahaha, guess who called Saturday night to say she wasn't coming this week after all? Yep. This time because she missed her train. She showed up for the train on Friday and they said her train was on Thursday. Nancy claimed it ran different days of the week, depending on the week. I checked the schedule, the same train leaves the same time on both Thursday and Friday. It's the fricking California Zephyr, runs daily to Chicago. Heck if I know why she'd dragging her feet. She's staying with her brother, who the last time I spoke with her about him, was persona non grata; she hadn't spoken to him in over five years. Ehhhh. No sweat off my nose; it's not like I showed up at the bus station and she didn't show. I just don't like being lied to.

IOequallyasunpleasantN, work has it's ups and downs, mostly downs. I got whumped by the bosslady, again. This time for not monitoring my new employee's training closely enough. Blargh. Maybe if Judith didn't make up such detailed lists that when one thing goes awry, it throws the whole schedule off, she wouldn't feel she needs to get on my case about it, especially since I didn't make up the schedule! And Judith won't acknowledge that Karen just won't speak up for herself enough with Don, who's supposed to be training her. He doesn't want to have to do it, so he ignores her and she won't push to get him to slow down or to speak to her to tell her what he's doing. Judith blames Don for it every time. Now, I agree, Don is very passive-aggressive and is doing everything he can to try and get out of it, but some of the onus belongs on Karen. She needs to step up. So today, I sat with both of them while she was shadowing him and I asked question after question while she sat there, mum for most of the time. Even I couldn't get him to slow down enough to explain everything, but Karen was able to take a lot more notes this time. Also, I found out that some of the things she needs to do that while there are written procedures, they are so out-of-date as to be unusable. And these are the things where Don won't slow down enough for her to learn, because he says there are written procedures. ::headdesk:: I foresee more sitting and riding herd over the two of them. But at least I told Judith that's what I was going to do, so she can't think I'm not monitoring their activities enough. Grrr.

Got lots done around the condo on Saturday and then fucked off totally on Sunday since Nancy wasn't coming back. By lots, I mean I did the usually weekly stuff: dishes, took out trash, tidied up a little, cleaned the downstairs bathroom. Since I haven't done grocery shopping for this week yet, I baked a loaf of quick bread (I didn't have any yeast.) It came out fairly tasty. It needed a little more salt (I tend to skimp on that because so many recipes often have too much for me, but it really did need what the recipe called for) and something to give it a little savory punch. I used a spicy Sicilian herb flavored olive oil and threw in some chopped up sun-dried tomatoes along with a half cup of an Italian three-cheese blend. It had a nice little kick of heat to it from the olive oil and the cheese made it nice and moist, but it ended up a little sweeter than I wanted. Next time, if I decide to use the same additions, I'll throw in some minced garlic and maybe some basil.

I finally got around to watching War Horse. It's been in my Netflix queue for quite some time now. Man, as much as I wanted to see it for the Hiddles and the Batch, I had no idea how much it was going to make me cry! OMG, tears, tears, tears. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, because all the previews I saw seemed to revolve around the horse, the Hiddles and the Batch. Only I found out the latter two really didn't play that big a part in the movie. Initially, I was a little disappointed, as I thought they'd have larger roles from the previews. But by the time the movie was over I was very happy with the amount of time everyone got. Their roles may not have been big, but they were perfect in them. And, since I'm on a movie watching spree of hot, young, leading men, I've got Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy lined up next.
