A realization about Anime...
I finally realized why several anime depict students as having a certain "school uniform" for their students... not just because school uniforms are manditory in most japanese schools, but because they give you a sence of personality.
the author/artist wants you to believe that these kids all have one unifying element, and this is the ethics and pride in their school and general wholesomeness. it's why the "bad" kids always wear their uniforms wrong, and why the "snobby" kids always wear them to perfect dress code.
the cute ones add fun legwarmers or accessories and the smart ones add glasses (which also adds the magane complex)... and if you have a lot of characters, drastically different hair colors and styles are utilized.
