Birthday ideas Locked to Tom Riddle, little__riddle

Nov 22, 2005 20:51

Ok, my adopted son's birthday is coming up in another month or so. I've never had a child before, and I don't have alot (read ANY) experience with magical children - and yes, he's a magician in the making, and will be going to Hogwarts someday. Hopefully.

So what does one get a seven year old magic user for their birthday anyhow?

All children are magical. It's parents and schoolmasters that drum it out of them.

I stand corrected, sir. *smiles, bows head to him*

Although, on my world children rarely had the ability to speak to - or understand snakes, or to start fires with a thought.

And I still need a birthday idea for him.

Most adults would be surprised what children can see, hear and accomplish. If only we could remember their own childhoods without doubting, the world would be a very different place, indeed.

A deck of Marsailles Cards, perhaps?

*smiles, thinking of Tom* Yea, he surprises me every day.

What are Marsailles Cards? A deck of specialized playing cards?

Books, we can do books. *writes it down* Normally I read to him at night, so that's a start.

*rocks on her heels thinking* Diagon Alley has some preffy wicked toy stores for kids. If you can't get there I think I saw an outlet in the Mall.

What sorts of things does he like?

((*cough* You still have the puppy icon as your default. Might want to fix that...))

Whatever you'd get any other seven year old. Just 'cause a kid can use magic doesn't mean they have three heads or something. Have him write a letter to Santa and see what he wants.

I don't know what to get any other seven year old either. I mean - is Doctor Suess too young? Stuffed animals?

But the letter to Santa bit is good, I'll do that. Thanks.

I'm reading the dictionary, but most people are weird and don't like to.

Maybe we'll hold off and do that next year or something. *grins*

Hmm, I've heard good things about Gobstones before.

Mainly thinking in terms of what the boy's universe will have, as it's very important to a growing youth that he be skilled in activities of his peer group.

*Chuckles*

If you can teach him to belch the entire alphabet in a row, he'll be a minor celebrity, no doubt!

Belch the entire alpahbet? Oh man. I am so outclassed on this. Hmmmm.. gobstones you said? What do they do?

Very important skill for a growing boy. And Gobstones are a type of wizarding marbles; the main difference is that they shoot an odourous liquid in your face when you lose. Fun to do!

Hmm, might be a good idea to get some regular marbles to practice with as well.

*writes 'gobstones' down*

Gotcha. Maybe I'll just give Sirius money, send him to Diagon Alley. What about a subscription to one of those - what is that sport? Where they fly brooms and hit balls out of the sky with them .. or something?
