Froggy
My voice is decidedly froggy right now, and it was virtually gone yesterday. I forgot how prone I am to losing my voice when I get sick... And it's shocking to hear that I sound like this when I do talk because I'm not talking much -- I haven't left the house since Thursday afternoon and am just hanging around here with my boyfriend, who's also sick right now. Awww, we can be disgusting together! It's kind of fun, in a low key comfortable way. Last night we watched all three Back to the Future movies on Encore just because they were on. I hadn't seen them since the 80s/early 90s and I confirmed my initial impressions: I love the first one, the second one is unspeakably awful, and the third one is better than the second one but still pretty cheesy. The movies are so quotable, or maybe it was just that my friends at I watched the first one at our slumber parties so often that we memorized it... Same thing with Ferris Bueller.
The upshot of being sick is that I do love this "down time" of getting to hang around at home. And I got a really great start on NaNo! I feel like I need to build up a good bank on words while I'm a) inspired, and b) have time available. Work has been icky lately and promises to get even ickier. It was nice not to think about it, though, while Nano-ing yesterday.
Oh, we also got around to watching Iron Man on Friday. I really liked it! I'd heard it was good, and it was nice to confirm that for myself.
I'm glad to have these fiction-related diversions right now because I've gotten to the point where I can't watch the news anymore. I'm so sick of reports about the election -- I just want to fast-forward to Tuesday and have Obama win. I don't like to hear about the polls tightening up or McCain pulling off an upset -- are the media trying to create additional suspense or is it just that they need to have something election-related to report on every 10 minutes? I'm pretty disgusted with the 24-hour news cycle. I can't even take NPR anymore.
