I've been screening new slush readers over at Abyss & Apex, and I thought that some of my comments to the new slusher might be apropos to our submitters.

(This Story) attracted me because of several subtle things. I loved the echoing rhythm of the piece, the very different voice, and the fact that all the numerical iterations were in base eight. ( Read more... )

*crawls toward coffee machine* Oh gosh, that was fun. I saw tons of friends and genre colleagues at the SFWA Publisher's Reception last night. The Manhattan Planet Hollywood venue was a bit noisy but a nice change, and very centrally located. I just dashed off some emails to folks I promised to write at the event.

R.I.P., Charles N. Brown, Editor of LOCUS. We met at several cons, and I enjoyed his company. Raising a glass in the memory of a man who loved the genre as much or more than I did.
