Hi again, world!

I'm finally back, after a 20-hour power outage!! The entire Metro-D.C. area was hit with severe thunderstorms and even tornado warnings in some parts further north of me (I'm not sure if they got any actual tornadoes or just heavy winds). It was pretty crazy. I really expected the power to be out for just a couple of hours, so it was weird having it off all night and well into the next day. Disappointing also, because we had big plans to watch the movie I got for my birthday, "Across the Universe" (excellent film- I saw it with Gen around Valentine's Day, and I can't wait for my family to see it) and then watch a slideshow of pictures from Florence's trip while drinking the wine she brought back from Italy. :) We're going to do all that tonight, after Florence and I go out to dinner with our best friends from church. Right now I'm just glad to have the power back!!

I did get to do one fun thing yesterday evening- I listened to another birthday gift, the CD "One Cell in the Sea" by A Fine Frenzy, who I had never heard of until this year. I discovered her through the site Pandora Radio (www.pandora.com), which asks you for the name of an artist or song you like and then finds songs like it by different artists for you to listen to. I am a big Vienna Teng fan, as you all know well, and so I put in her name and got a ton of fabulous female singer-songwriters, including A Fine Frenzy. Their song "The Minnow and the Trout" made such an impression on me that I asked for the CD for my birthday. I really enjoyed the CD; it turned out to be the perfect music for sitting in my room without power, watching the sun set as a second huge thunderstorm rolled in. If you're as much of a fan of folk-rock singer-songwriters like Vienna Teng as I am, you'll probably like this band as well.

Also, as I referenced in an earlier paragraph, I has a sister again. ;) Yes, Florence is back! I waited two hours in the airport for her to come out, too. I had forgotten that all the people don't come out at once- they trickle out in singles or pairs, and they have to wait in the customs line, so it takes them twice as long to get out. So I got there an hour before the flight came in, and then stood there for another hour waiting for someone I knew to show up. It was a little bit boring, but good to see various students and faculty who had been on the trip- and Florence, of course. :)

Off to get rid of the massive amounts of email sitting in my inbox! Hope all the rest of you MD/DC/VA people are getting your power back!
