Today begins like most days in my life.
It’s about two o’ clock in the afternoon when I arrive at my apartment on the outskirts of Leeds, having spent the night before with my boyfriend. It’s also winter; thankfully not cold enough to snow, but I still wish I had some surplus body fat to keep me warm.
Instead I thaw out with a cup of coffee, which I decide to enjoy while catching up on communities and emails online.
After that, I open up MS Word as I get inspired for an update to one of my stories. Unlike my other half, I don’t need a television to keep me entertained; my imagination is quite capable of doing that by itself.
So much so, I easily get absorbed to the point where I lose track of time. I remain glued to the keys for a while, barring the odd break for essentials like food, coffee, and so on.
On one such occasion, I decide now’s a good time to get myself some food - my finances can stretch to a cheap pizza just for a change, so I decide to treat myself.
Typically, as I walk along the street I feel the first spots of rain begin to fall. Before long a storm is whipping up, and the thunder rips through the sky as a bolt of lightning strikes a little too close to home.
Forget the pizza, I’m going back indoors!
I don’t make it that far, however, as another bolt sends me flying. It’s almost as though I’d been caught in the blast, as the weirdest sensation comes over me…
Was I struck? I don’t know. I don’t even remember hitting the ground.
