Seven Things:
My trip to New Orleans was fantastic. :) My nephew is WALKING and our rehearsals for the Murder Ballads went very well. There's a lot I need to work on still as regards my technique (we'll be seated while we sing and using microphones, so I have to really work on where I'm placing the phrases in my upper register so as to not overpower the mic) and the phrasing (Tucker wrote without a lot of dynamics, so it's on us to shape the lines ourselves), but we're in a good place. I also got to hear his new project: twisted love songs. My favorite was the neo-Baroque piece about a booty call. LOVE IT.
Went to opening night for the new show at my theatre. It's a Wilde play and it got me all twitterpated about Wilde in a way I haven't felt in years. The director made some interesting choices that got me thinking about the play in ways I didn't expect, so on the whole, I quite liked it. The buzz about the show has been great and the first reviews have been very positive. Whatever flaws I might see in the production, it's very exciting to have a good show coming out of our theatre this season (our other hit was grown in Chicago).
I have an interview coming up. :-| I have MANY FEELINGS about this.
This is my first night home in a WEEK and it has been DELICIOUS. I got home before 8PM and made dinner and actually talked to my roommate for an hour and a half, which was fantastic. I need time to recharge in my own space, something that's been lacking a LOT recently, and that takes a toll. Tomorrow looks to be more of the same, and I say BRING IT ON.
On Friday, I get a Sam! Sam is one of my favorite people in all the land and one of my first friends at college- S was my lovely lovely Customs Person as a freshman, and she took me in and laughed at my jokes and I adored her at once. I haven't seen her since she got married a year and a half ago, so I'm PSYCHED to squire her around DC. We'll be seeing a local production of Dr Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog and visiting the Spy Musuem and watching Miranda and going out to see Paul... It's going to be AMAZING.
As I was unstacking a rack of chairs this morning, I thwacked myself full speed in the throat with one, smack across my windpipe. Yeah. It was pretty smooth. (OHGODOHGOD IT HURT LIKE THE DICKENS AND IT'S STILL SORE WHEN I POKE IT)
I've been idly rewatching episodes from S1 of Scrubs in the mornings while I eat breakfast. I have lovely associations with Scrubs and friends from Haverford- the show premiered in fall of my freshman year and was a regular feature in the Customs Suite every week, and the tradition continued with my freshman the next year. Even though the show waxed and waned in quality over the years, I'm so glad I stuck with it until the end (or at least where I count the end- there was no season 9). Even so, I was a little apprehensive to revisit the earliest episodes in case they hadn't aged as well as I might hope. Luckily, they're holding up pretty damn well, and 'My Old Lady' got me all verklempt this morning. It's fun to see the show try to figure out what to do with JD's imagination, as well as navigate the normal issues of just who the characters are and how they relate. I've been watching Community a lot this month (I'm almost caught up to real time!) and it's not too hard to see why I enjoy both shows and the parallels between them.
