I've got some expression practice for you all today!
I thought of this idea a while ago to practice exaggeration in facial expressions. I found a few old drawings where the faces seemed......stiff, for lack of a better description. They didn't convey the emotion like they should have. Observe:
She looks vaguely annoyed, but that's about it. The feeling is rather lukewarm, which is not what I wanted to portray. I wanted something stronger.
About three years later, this is what I tried going for:
In this one, I really tried to push the limits of the face, exaggerated everything I could think of at the time (and now, looking at it again, I think I can do even more). I added the squinched up lower eye lids, for one thing, put in some crease lines along the mouth ('cause the face don't stay wrinkle free when one is emoting :D), pulled the mouth down a bit for a more aggravated look, and, because I have taken Life Drawing classes and am no longer afraid of drawing other body parts, I threw in the torso with some "I am not happy" body language. Yay! As I mentioned, now that I look at it, I think I'll go back and push it even more, and see what I can get out of it. I'll post that next week, along with some more gestures and face practice!
