And for other news...

I got a call this morning while I was at the doctor's office with my mom (they were mucking about with her pacemaker, all normal stuff). My cousin Kacie called and was on the way to the ER: my Aunt Joan had suffered a catastrophic-level stroke. She was responsive when she got there, but as of this evening, she is still unresponsive and unlikely to recover. She has a DNR and, as per her orders, is being moved to a hospice and removed from all life support. Mom and I are headed down to Kalamazoo Sunday morning. We will be down there a while, to say our good-byes to Joan, and to say our hellos to Fiona, my newest grandchild, who was born just a little over a month ago.

Joan was a very strong, positive influence in my life, and basically held me together after my grandmother died, and taught me to be very, very strong (and loud!) in the face of adversity.

My Aunt Joan. There's a reason she was a strong, positive influnence. She also happened to work in the county jail. She made the worst of the worst cry. And they would apologise, too.

And this happened! Meet Fiona of Ravenclaw!
