OMG, that is terrifying! WTF is wrong with people? And if something happened to one of those kids the stupid parents would wail and rage about how could such a thing happen.
Exactly, because I knew they were there I was careful, but even so the oldest was half way up the hill when I pulled out at the bottom of the hill. She grudgingly gave me the right away, and I didn't kill her so I count that as a win.
It's not just parental supervision, it's common sense and self preservation that the kids are lacking. When I was a kid, I wouldn't even ride the skateboard down a hill, as I was afraid of falling off and getting hurt. Common sense should really be a required school class.
That's true. Some kids are more reserved, some are more daredevils. My daughter was more aware of self-preservation, my son, not so much. But that is okay. That is why children need their parents longer than dogs take care of puppies.
My daughter would have never done that, my son might have but I doubt it. (he didn't always think things through, but he wasn't a moron) but if I had seen it I would have stopped it. These kids were just running wild...did mom even once step outside to check on the welfare of her kids? No. Not once. *growls*
That being said, kids don't often think the way we think we should. Several years ago, I heard loud violent thumping coming from my roof. I ran into the front yard, and my very bright oldest boy was up there. He was playing hide and go seek with the neighbors. On my roof.
LOL. I hate to say it, but that sounds like exactly the kind of thing we would've done as kids. In fact, I think we did something very similar using a Radio Flyer. Of course, it was usually in our own very long driveway and not on a road with traffic, but the principle sounds the same. I think maybe our Dad and our Uncle even joined in a time or two. I guess that's called being raised redneck.
Ha! I love the redneck thing but the key is you weren't going down a public road. And a Radio Flyer does kind of steer, I mean, you can turn the wagon with the pull handle a bit. And as weird as it sounds, your Dad and Uncle were aware, so even if you were doing something less than safe, they were with you to make sure it did not get out of hand.
So, 1) there was some steering 2) parental involvement 3) not competing with bigger vehicles, like CARS AND TRUCKS.
Haha, no cars or trucks to compete with, but also no real brakes. There are a few kid-sized dents in the side of the pole shed to attest to this fact. :P *giggles and smooshes you*

I'm sure those kids thought that riding Tonka trucks down the hill was the - Best! Idea! Ever!
That's why they have parents though... to keep them alive. :)
