Feel free to past this by, flisties, I just wanted to take a stand.
I grew up at the bottom of a steep, curving hill that ends in a small cliff/woodsy area, which ends in a stream. It is a paved street and about 20 years ago they turned it into a one way street. (I think because more than once a car driven by somebody without too many brain cells, would not be able to navigate the grade and the curve and we would find a car in the stream) No one ever got hurt really, but the danger was there. Since it is a one way street, it is pretty quiet but there are cars parked on each side and as I said before, the curve is a little dangerous.
Yesterday I go to visit my mom and the next door neighbor's children (I use this word lightly, demon spawn may be a better word) are running and screaming outside. There are six I believe, the oldest maybe 11 and the youngest maybe four. They are using metal Tonka trucks (big ones, that you play in big sandboxes with) to drive/ride down said hill.
Tonka trucks.
They have no steering, no brakes, they are not even riding toys and these kids are barreling down the hill like there is no tomorrow. The littlest had only one shoe on. I can only imagine that that was his "breaking" foot.
BTW, mom was home. Didn't bother to look out the window at her children or if she did, didn't think that they should be encouraged to stop their flaunting of death by riding Tonka trucks at breakneck speeds down the middle of a street.
I know that sometimes I sound old. Hell, I am old. I just don't see me as a child or my kids when they were little, doing stupid shit like this. Or my mom or myself allowing it. My kids did dumb stuff, all kids do dumb stuff, but isn't that our job as parents to stop the stupid?
Jeesh.
