Trying to paint something called "Foxes at the Carnival". Saw the Olympic Torch pass through Exeter today. Feel v. listless and bored. Reading Fight Club just makes things worse.

Though it got bogged down sometimes when Jonathan Swift decided to make his satirical mocking of society a little too unsubtle (resulting in pages upon pages of him simply phrasing descriptions of certain aspects of England in ways that made them seem absurd or dislikeable), it was mostly easy reading. I knew it was meant to be the inspiration for 1984, but I'm surprised at just how similar the two texts are, especially the endings. But I definitely liked We, more than Brave New World, anyhow, which I found tedious and I didn't like any of the characters. I could barely get to sleep last night because I had so many ideas for reviews bouncing around in my head. And I'm pretty sure I dreamt about tgwtg.com too, which is kind of lame. But anyway, I'm considering doing a review of Frankenstein (the novel), which I didn't like very much despite all its fame.

went to a roots+shoots youth summit conference, it was really interesting/inspiring, especially the speech by jane goodall (I have now heard her speak twice, which i think is quite a privilege, as she's been to our school before as well). and of course the presentation by the animals asia founder made everyone in the audience shed a tear. very good ( Read more... )
