I didn't think Fullmetal Alchemist the first did a really good job of balancing the various elements (humor/drama/filler), except where the military was concerned - but as I recall. the first episode of the first show used the two jokes about Ed and Al over and over and over again in a similar way.

After that it calmed down a bit. So you should be okay.

People often dress up (beyond the ordinary) for Easter, as it's one of the two most important holidays of the year, but that is probably going to be less true of a Presbyterian service than, say, a Catholic or Orthodox or Episcopalian one.

If you can, I would pack the skirt you are thinking of and a dressier one and then ask your grandmother which she thinks would be better. But obviously space is not limitless.

I see you are packing Sayers. I approve.

I felt the military characters balance drama and humor really well, but otherwise not so much ( ... )

One other thought is that the first episode of the first series also more or less threw you into the middle of things with no explanation, and followed that up with a very long flashback to explain it all - so it may not be a fan targeting problem, it may just be how Fullmetal Alchemist works.

Granted, it sounds like they threw you more stuff than they did in the first show, but it also seems like the opening story was less complicated to compensate.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the next episode is going to cover Liore (as it was mentioned twice in this episode), so . . .we're just getting a longer piece of action than the first time. But, yeah, this was a pretty simple plot - Waterbending terrorist out for blood. I do like how they explain bit by bit what happened, but it'd still be somewhat perplexing if I hadn't seen a few episodes of the old one.

Wait no. That's not the right subject... ^_^''
I think that would be fine for church.
I totally forgot I had to go to Church on Easter.
Now that I'm thinking about it, I should be figuring out what I'm going to wear....(My old church-drobe is oversized now.)
I've got some flow-y black pants (Purchased for my Hatter Tamaki, shhh.)
And a lavender blouse/black vest combo that might work...*ponders*
Hope you have a nice time.

I'm incredibly far removed from being the right person to ask, there, but I think that combination sounds great.

Thanks!

Well, their primary market is fans, y'know. However, since this counts as Continuity Reboot (For the anime, anyway), I do agree that perhaps they shouldn't load it on too thick. The thing with the Ed/Al Fullmetal gag is only logical though. It happens almost every time they meet somebody new, and you know that that kind of interaction would happen every time in real life. Don't fault them for being consistent, even if it kills the humor. Also, Rule of Three.

Ah, Easter. The occasion only means to me that it is the day for giving and receiving Cadbury Creme Eggs. But hey, I doubt you could dodge out if you wanted, and you're not like me (IE, mildly looking for a belief system I can get behind.), So, Yeah. Mmm... Cadbury Creme Eggs... Delicious chocolate.

PS: Wait, is there more than one FLCL disc? It's six episodes long. They can't fit all that data on a DVD?

Yeah, but I had hoped that didn't penetrate deeper than the OP. The OP visuals are, after all, basically, "HEY! LOOK AT THESE CHARACTERS YOU ALREADY KNOW AND LOVE! THEY'RE DOING AWESOME THINGS?! DON'T YOU WANT TO SEE THEM DO MORE AWESOME THINGS?!"

If Ed is so famous, wouldn't his physical appearance be commonly known? Even if it's not totally logical, everyone knowing that, say, Kenshin had a red pony tail and an X-shaped scar is better than every single person mistaking Al for Ed.

Ah, yes, but you see, I get brunch. Plus, I expect this to be fun and interesting.

Yeah. FLCL is three discs, two episodes each. Pretty much every six-episode OVA is, as far as I know. Diebuster and Gunbuster are, at least. Maybe it's a Gainax thing.

It's not a Gainax thing. ^^;

I think Murder Princess is going to be the first six episode OVA released on less than three discs, actually, but I may be wrong about that. I'm not really knowledgeable about them. ^^;

An OVA is going to have much higher production values than a TV show, which is why it takes up more space.

Thank you! That's what I thought, but since I have little experience thus far with 6-episode non-Gainax OVAs, I wasn't sure. I'm pretty sure Gatekeepers 21 was three discs, too, but that's a vague and distant memory.

. . .I should re-watch that and see if it holds up.
