Man, it's Tuesday and it's bloody freezing in my room. Argh.
So, survived the weekend which was spent mainly wedged in the back of the Focus, with my mother, and my mother's classroom. I swear, teachers are definitely not paid enough for their efforts, and this country needs to get its damned act together about education, if only so that I can go on a family trip without having to deal with eight piles of paper and listening to my mother's theories on her students. Oy. Other than that, quite a pleasant trip. The weather was the lovely cool autumn kind, my grandma has a killer new flat screen TV, and she also made us fried chicken. I had a nice chat with my grandpa, which apparently made him very happy, probably because I'm an awful grandchild and hardly ever catch up with them. What can I say? I work, I read, I dance, and I sleep. But I'm glad he's happy. He was quite proud of my customer service kudos, and that I work for the railroad. He and my grandma also pointed out that I'm thin, possibly too much so. Well, I don't know about that, especially after all that excellent Grandma food. Woo, I had half a lemon bar for dessert Saturday night, and then sacked out in the guest room because I was somewhere between exhausted from the week (I did work hard) and having a food coma.
I slept like a rock, but that bed was hard on my back, and I was glad to get home to my supportive mattress and not being held hostage in the back seat of the Focus with eighteen tracks of Neil Diamond assaulting my ears. Though it could've been worse, it could've been Neil Young. Ick and a half. But yes, came home to a surprise about Top Gear on 60 Minutes (what?!) and the newest Sherlock Holmes variation, the modern Sherlock Holmes. I already adore it, hence the icon. I think they nailed it pretty well, at least in this first episode. "I'm in shock, I'm wearing a blanket." Brilliant. It's been a very anglophile week for me. I just hauled out my Shakespeare textbook to check a quote, and god, I love Shakespeare! I don't know how I forget that fact since I have an entire play hanging over my bed, but I do love Shakespeare. I would read more of my excellent Norton Shakespeare Anthology except it weighs more than Eric's work boots. Though I think I'll dig out my Shakespeare papers for a little glance-through.
Speaking of writing, I'm so ready for Nano. I'm raring to get words down and I have some fairly good ideas for plot and characters, but I imagine I'll mostly just mess about and write whatever I can. I'm recycling one of my favorite characters, the inimitable Fedor Olshansky, inspired by sports that I don't watch, yet know about. Olshansky is quite the badass. I need to ask a few friends if I may borrow their names for the novel, since character naming tends to be a hang-up for me, and with Nano you just need to keep going. I intend to have some ridiculous fight sequences, describe things way too much, be ten times more verbose than I normally am, rant about love, and drop the occasional goofy line. Oooh, I can't wait.
Also, I think that $25 gift card is going to new headphones for Nano. Mine are starting to drive just a smidge over the edge. And Halloween is this weekend! I sparked an interesting conversation at the office yesterday over who is more beautiful: Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn? I think they're both lovely, it depends on whether you want blonde or brunette. And if you're going for a redhead, um, I guess it'll have to be Maureen O'Hara. I've got you covered.
Ugh, so cold outside. I need warm dessert.
