Early Birthday Weekend.

Since Robert couldn't come up for my real birthday weekend, he visited me this past weekend instead.  It's probably a good thing, as G20 is descending upon up this week and traffic is going to be Hell.  In fact, I'm not sure if we'll be going to work on Friday.  I can always hope, right? I mean, they were boarding up the bottom windows of the BST3 this evening!  They really mean business.

So yea, I had a good weekend, starting with Thursday.  Robert gave me another picture frame and my running reflector vest (a non-dorky one) is on the way (his is on loan in the meantime, woohoo!).  He also made a tasty double-layered chocolate cake, yum!  He thought he was being tricky by putting 23 trick candles on them, but I caught them sparking.  However, joke's on him as he had to put out each of the 23 trick candles with wet fingers.  Mwahaha.  I made him eat the part of the cake with the burnt frosting.  ;)  I came back from lab on Friday to find my room decorated!!  It took me back to college.  :)  I have 23 balloons on one wall, a happy birthday banner, heart confetti on my table, pink/white streamers in my entrance-way, and party hats on my stuff animals/everywhere.  I thought it was really cute, I loved it.  :)  They won't be coming down until I get absolutely tired of them.  Judging by how long I kept my stuff up at BW, this could take a few months, haha.

I took my dress in to get altered while Robert sat in the car (he saw nothing, don't worry), alterations are crazy expensive!  At least I don't need much done, it'll be back in October!  I bought a cheap yet decent wood chess board at Target and Robert re-taught me how to play (it's been since German class in high school).  While I definitely lost, I'm pleased to say that I held my own and it took an hour for him to beat me.  We also picnicked with some Penn Station and Halloween cookies at Schenley Park and played some disc golf, where we both threw horribly and stopped keeping score.  It was fun.

Today I stayed late in lab so David (MD/PhD student in another lab) could teach me some mice basics.  He was a good teacher and said I did very well, and I must say I'm impressed with myself for never handling mice before.  Maybe I missed my calling as a surgeon, haha... no.  But at least I've gotten over the squeamish part of things and can stomach mice work. At least I remembered some of my anatomy so  I didn't sound like an idiot when he quizzed me about stuff.

I also found out today that my Wisconsin thing is only going to be on that Friday night, so we'll go up Friday morning and fly back on Saturday.  Works for me, I still get to put it on my CV!  Sandro even mentioned how it  could be a nice place for me to run up there, haha... it's about time people started figuring out that side of me! :-)
