It's so nice to be back in a lab that I like. Where people actually talk to me. Etc... I won't actually start my own project until September, but until then I think I'll mostly be helping Gyun Jee with some wrap up experiments and basically easing my way back into the lab. I'm currently working on the pharmacology training grant- only a page or two about my project at least. I doubt I'll get it, there are so many good people in the program, but at least it's good practice. Plus it puts my current grant writing class to good use! I'm also getting a nice new desktop for my [new] space in lab, I'm very excited- no more tiny puter screen!
Back-tracking back to Tuesday, Robert came and visited me for a good chunk of the week. He joined me on campus at the Wyndam for a lab lunch one day, so it was cool that he got to meet the people I work with and get a free meal. We played a couple of games of disc golf, once from the [easier] red and one from the normal white. I threw a +14 and a +22, respectively. Both games were horrible, but at least I improved my white score a little. I'm slowly getting better at throwing those darn things. One day we also had a picnic before we threw, complete with strawberry shortcake for dessert! Mmmm. We failed at trying to go to a drive-in movie the first time because they were already sold out by the time we got there, so we settled for pizza and Blockbuster. Watched 'He's Just Not that into You' and 'Push'. I actually liked the former, but 'push' didn't do much for me- it had potential, but I thought it had too many holes. Saturday we went to the behind the scenes tour at the Pittsburgh Zoo with BGSA, which unfortunately included creeper. Lucky for us, we mostly managed to avoid her. Being behind the scenes was cool, we got to see a lot of animals really up close. I was hoping that would include the Komodo dragon, but no such luck. It's definitely not as big as the Cincy zoo, but it's still cute. We got Robert some new flip flops down at the Waterfront, then ventured on over to the drive-in. We were a half hour early this time, but apparently the majority of the people STILL got there earlier (seriously people, get a life). We saw 'Bruno' and 'The Proposal'. We had a terrible parking space for Bruno, front row but waaaaay over to the side. Anyway, I thought it was better than Borat, I did a good share of laughing, but 1) I don't feel the need to see so many penises in a movie and 2) I could have done without all the butt sex references. I don't ever plan on seeing it again, but it was ok for a cheap laugh one time. However, I really did like 'The Proposal', even if it did contain the same storyline as most other chick flicks. I'm just a sucker for that stuff, ok?
Unfortunately, he left yesterday. :( I like "constant Robert", as LeeAnne puts it, lol. I caved today and had Mom get me an appointment with Dr. Scott for when I come next to check out my hip. It's not really hurting more than usual, but it's just so annoying I'd like to find out what's up with it. I've also tentatively scheduled my 'summer vacation' for the week of 8/10-8/14. I have 3 weeks of no classes in August, and Sandro said I could have some time off. Sooo I plan on it!
I just had pork roast, a baked potato, and corn for dinner. I am stuff-a-rooed. Hopefully my stomach will empty enough for some ice cream later. :)
