Summary: A High Princess’ biggest admirer.
Notes: Jalenashi isn’t past the point of no return yet here (she’s eleven), but she is the Big Bad of this story eventually.

“Ru, you have to stop doing this,” Jalenashi insisted, threading the haphazardly placed jewels from her sister’s hair with her fingers. Those fingers, so slender and so much better suited for harp-playing and letters than Ruhana’s were. Hers were still fat, like the baby she desperately wanted to stop being. As was evident by what she had done.
“I jus’ wanta be big like you.” Ah, there was the brave face. The face that said the six year old was trying very hard not to cry.
Jalenashi bit her lip and said nothing, concentrating for the moment on setting the priceless strings of sapphires aside where they would not be ruined. She turned back to Ruhana and began to loosen the knots tying her makeshift silks - actually a white and gold bedsheet - under her armpit. “Give it time,” she said. “You do know that I am not fully grown yet either.”
“You’re not?”
“No,” Jalenashi murmured, smiling a bit at Ruhana’s wide eyes. “But I guarantee you that you will be bigger in five years than I am now. You will be tall, I can feel it.” She spoke of the future as if she knew it for the sake of her sister’s peace.
“Oh, I’m not sure if I wanta be taller than you,” Ruhana whispered as if it were some secret.
Jalenashi truly smiled then, ruffling her sister’s hair. “All things in time, Ru. But for now,” she held up a sapphire strand, “what’s this, hmm?”
“I - aah…” The blush on her cheeks was truly adorable.
“Blue isn’t quite your color, Ru. How about some rubies instead? I bet they’d look stunning in your hair.”
Ruhana broke into a wide grin - so flighty, she is - and followed her sister to the latter’s vanity, oohing over the bloodred gems Jalenashi showed her.
