Phoenix was in awe of the atmosphere around her. The sun gently coming up over the California waves. The eleven year old knew how to appreciate beauty and this was definitely worth appreciating. Each sound of the ocean hitting the shore made her heart sing joyously. She smiled over at her dad who smiled back her as he sipped on his coffee.
“Beautiful huh, Fire?”
Phoenix nodded. It truly was. The sunrises in Prescott were beautiful in their own way but this was something else. “My first time seeing the ocean. It’s worth it.” Carrie came out of the RV and brought a mug for Phoenix. After smiling in thanks up at her mother, Phoenix sipped her hot apple cider and then frowned.
“Dad, how come you didn’t want to live here?”
Tyler looked over at his daughter and questioned back, “In California?”
“Yeah? It’s beautiful here isn’t it?”
“It is. That much is true. But Arizona has a different kind of beauty and for some reason, I appeal to that beauty much more than this one. It’s wilder…untamed. Like a land begging to be cultivated and loved. That’s why I wanted to be there.” Tyler explained as he smiled up at Carrie who sat down beside him.
Phoenix took a drink of her cider and afterwards gave a soft smile as she thought about his words. It was true…there was no other place like Arizona. Phoenix really couldn’t see herself anywhere else.
There was no other place to her…like Arizona.
