Note: I'm not completely satisfied with his name, so it might change. XD I'm still trying to figure him all out.

Izerith walked down the path beside the river with one hand in his coat pocket and the other one swaying at his side. He strutted towards the underpass of the bridge that lead into the city with his chin raised and gaze focused ahead of him. Moths buzzed around the lamp post a yard or two away, trying to shelter themselves from the night. Izerith flicked his hand over his spiked, snow white hair as he shooed a gnat away.

‘Annoying pests’, he grumbled thought. There was a brief delay before a smirk turned up the edge of his pale pink lips instead. These creatures-bugs, animals, humans-were all pests. All of them were intriguing irritations.

The flutter of wings caught his attention. When Izerith paused to stare up at the ceiling of the underpass, he noticed a bat hanging there. Those black, beady eyes peered down at him with uncertainty. Its wings were partially spread out as it struggled to decide whether or not it needed to flee. Izerith huffed in amusement. He pursed his lips together before whistling out a long, shrill note. The bat above chirped back a few times before deciding to swoop down towards the man. Izerith gave a pleased smile when the bat landed on his shoulder.

“Evening,” Izerith greeted as he scratched the bat’s fuzzy head. A cheep came from the bat before it nuzzled its head against the man’s neck. “Did you miss feeding time? All the other bats have gone.”

The bat continued to rub its head against Izerith’s neck. “Hm? I nicked myself this afternoon when I was shaving.” Izerith brushed a hand over his remaining goatee. Unlike the hair on his head, his facial hair was black. “You can still smell the blood, can’t you?”

Izerith rubbed the pad of his finger against the cut he knew was there along his neck. Sharply, he pinched his fingernail into the nick, and blood rose to the surface after he dug it in deeper. As soon as cherry red droplets dripped down his throat, the bat chirped eagerly before lapping them up. Izerith smirked as he felt the bat's tiny, rough tongue scraping against his neck as it fed on him.

“Slow down, little pest,” Izerith cooed slyly. “You'll upset your stomach.”

He felt pin needle fangs nipping gingerly at his skin, trying to draw up more of the blood. The more time that passed, the more urgently the bat gulped down the blood. It's inky eyes were wide and feral as the rolling clicks and chirps it hummed sounded almost like whimpers. Suddenly, black veins appeared on the bat's face and stretched throughout its body. Its body went rigid. The bat wobbled there on Izerith's shoulder for a few seconds before dropping lifelessly to the cement. Slowly, the black veins faded, but that bat didn't move.

“You creatures,” Izerith ran a thumb over his smirk as he stared down at it, “Always so hungry.”

“But not me. There is no me,” Izerith declared while trying to hold in a laugh that abruptly rose up in his throat. “I do not exist. There used to be a me-a long time ago-but I had it surgically removed.”

The dark amber color of his irises dissolved into bright red. Like droplets of dye being dripped into water, the red swirled out from the rest of his eyes. It appeared almost as if his pupils were bleeding as the color dispersed. Soon the red film covered the majority of his eyes, replacing the whites and the irises. His black pupils were the only details untouched. The wicked grin that had surfaced onto his face faded away, but the glint of pride that shined in his red gaze remained.

“Demon blood is toxic, but it's addicting, isn't it?” Izerith mentioned as he straightened his coat and brushed off his shoulder. “Greedy, little things all of you are. Even you bats have your natural instincts and urges. It makes you weak. Every one of you longs for something more.”

Izerith sighed pleasantly as he rolled out his shoulders. “Not me though. I don't desire anything. You can't long for something you already have, now can you?”

With content shining in his demonic eyes, Izerith stepped over the corpse and continued on his way down the path.
