Notes: This piece takes place in 1117 AW after the King makes his attention to divorce Therese public. Most of the public sides with the Queen.
The church was alive with movement. Inside Father Babineaux was preaching a fiery sermon.
“Pray for our sainted king. His Majesty has fallen away for the path of a good Brondian. He consorts with these evil people who turn him away from his most sainted wife, our good Queen Therese. He has been beguiled by that whore from the lower regions. She has turned him away from a loving wife and child and he plans to marry this adulteress. If the King does he will be doomed to walk through the underworld with this woman.”
“What can we do to help him, Father?” A woman asked from one of the pews.
Father Babineaux was quiet for a moment.
“Besides prayer child, you can protest. Go to the palace and chant spirituals for that heathen woman to hear. Send prayer beads to the Queen. Let her know that you are on her side. Pray that His Holiness the Beatua dismisses His Majesty’s request and that he returns to his wife.”
Everyone nodded. Father Babineaux made the sign of the holy triangle over his chest.
“Now I will read from the Narratives,” Babineaux said opening up the heavy tome.
