Her heart was beating faster than the speed of light, even when it was in a vacuum. Duke kissed her her in front of a the student body, almost at the same time when Jake came.
He always had the perfect timing.
The lid from her jar rolled towards Jake’s feet, and so he picked it up, and handed it back to her. He glared shyly, and waited for Maxene’s reaction and explanation.
“Jake...I...” her eyes apologized. Jake couldn’t help but feel so sorry, and yet, he didn’t move.
“You meant to do that. I know.”
“Jake...I...”
Jake walked out.
