Summary: I’m sorry. It can never work.
Maxene followed Jake, threw away all her regrets, wiped her lips, and erased all her thinking. All she cared about now was Jake. She was sorry. She had to tell him that. Slipping her hands into her pockets, Max took out the seeds the twins told her about and gripped on them strongly. They were a symbol of hope.
Dialing on speed dial, Jake’s phone rang. He wasn’t answering. She wandered from alley to alley, but he was gone almost instantly.
“Jake!” She called out from across the road. He was crossing the street, and froze to turn his back. He saw Maxene, standing there.
“What?” He yelled back. “You here to tell me you’re sorry? Well, tough luck, I’m not here to hear them. Save your sorry for someone else. And when you know you’ve broken something.”
“Yes, I did broke something,” Maxene said. “I’m sorry I broke your heart. I’m willing to fix it.”
“So that you could break it again? Sorry, I had enough heartaches.” He continued walking away from her, pushing the snow-filled street.
“Jake!!! Let me explain...I...I...” She crossed the street to follow him, and realized the loud honking of truck heading her way.
Everything went dark. Nothing but the darkness and Jake’s sweet voice.
