sam and i left Madrid with a bit of trouble from the start, to early to catch the metro, we were forced to take other forms of transportation that sam was not as familiar with, like buses, taxies, and asking spanish boys to simply guide us there. we barely made our flight but all turned out.
Liverpool:
Long day of travel getting to the airport, two and half hour flight, one and half hour bus ride to victoria coach station to get on a four and half hour bus ride to get into liverpool. what a boring journey that was not even being able to sit next to sam due to an overcrowded bus.
When sam and i arrived in liverpool, we had to walk to our hostel which took about twenty minutes but it was a hard journey. I will never complain about madrid being cold again, england was about two degrees outside and i was not dressed well enough for it.
That night sam and i ate greek food and went to a pub where I was recommended this german beer by the bartender. it was awful tasting, but sam and i had a good time talking to the bartenders.
Our one day in liverpool we decided to devote solely to the beatles. Only natuarlly we went to the beatles story museum which was really amazing, almost brought to tears i tell you. we then used my spectacular navigation skills to find the cavern, the famous venue that started it all. unfortuantely the amazing historical site has been torn down and replaced by a mall, the location of where the cavern exactly was is a cafe called "lucy in the sky", not to clever if you ask me. All around the mall there are about three replica bars imitating the original bar so sam and i took our cheesy tourist photos in front of those.
Our hostel in liverpool was really nice, but its a rather slow time of year over there and we were the only ones in our room of seven beds.
London:
So I have to explain to you what an amazing miracle took place in my booking of our hostel. Not knowing the exact location of freddies house only the fact that it was in london, i looked up just curiously in an internet cafe how close our hosel was to its location to see if we could take a bus there. Turns out my one and only love in this world lived and died in an estate around the corner from our hostel. We walked there in three minutes!! miracle i tell you, the place from the outside is nothing you would bat an eye . its barracaded by a very large wall and the only indication that freddie lived there is carved all over the large wooden door. For sams video and for a picture I will always cherish, i stripped off my shirt and stood there in the freezing weather in front of that door.
Enough about freddie, I also did the normal tourist shit you do in england as well, like buckingham palace, trafalgar square, portobello road ( so much fun), piccadelly circus, big ben, westminster abbey, and a whole lot more. All the historical buildings were magnifecently beautiful, I have never seen anything like that and won't ever in America mostly because we are much to new of a country for anything to contain so much history. On saturday night sam and I went and saw the comedy musical Spamalot based off Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It was hilarious, and its definately going to make some people back home pretty jealous.
Sam decided to base her video around the english music scene, which worked out nicely because a lot of what we did revolved all different aspects of music. We had the musical theatre and the historical bands that came out of england but sam really wanted to see what was going on in the underground london scene and see its comparisons to the one in america. We went to a venue/bar called The Dublin Castle. The first band was very charismatic and had lots of energy for what was a relatively small crowd. The second and third bands were the one's sam was able to interview after the show. One was a group called The Fountains, they were cool, kind of a funky soul kind of vibe. The chick singer was really sweet and the guitar player was hysterical. The Getaway Team was a band of five guys, not really my style but they had nice harmony. they were, on the other hand, really nice to talk too and took the interview very seriously which was entertaining.
This is getting way too long so I want to finish off by making all the other harry potter fans out there jealous and say I went to plaform 9 3/4!!!
buenas noches.
