so today was pretty fantastic. june 21st is by far my favorite day of the year. it's the first day of summer, the longest day of the year (i was up at sunrise, against my will, but i'm kind of glad that i got to enjoy the whole day), and i became very addicted to a little game called apples to apples today at mary's party. i wonder if any of my board game night buddies have that one? because we so need to play it next time. oh, and i also went swimming, even though i cannot swim and i didn't have a bathing suit. and then afterwards i was trying to wring out the bottom of my shirt, and josh pushed me back in the pool. :/ it was kinda funny though. and tomorrow is going to be the most hectic day of my life. graduation rehearsal in the morning, then i need to come home, change really quick, and get to bloomfield for a job interview (i got fired from my other job cuz i couldn't wash dishes fast enough, ha), then get back home and change back into my normal clothes, and i'll probably have just enough time to get to JuJu's house for her bonfire party. and i still need to make her present. i've been up since 5:30 this morning and i still haven't had time to do that! ugh. i wish it was the first day of summer every day. maybe then i'd get something accomplished after a week or so.
ANYWAY, a couple hours ago, i wrote a very lengthy entry in my diary, and i thought i made a good point about a lot of things. so i am going to put what i wrote in here. because i want all of you to read it. i don't care if you're not graduating this year, or if i haven't been friends with you since i was four years old. read it anyway. <3
I came to a realization a few days ago. Everyone says that after you graduate, friends drift apart; everyone moves on and lives their own, separate, lives. But how can they? These are people that we have known since we were three or four years old, maybe even younger. We've had countless sleepovers. When we were little, we'd let each other sleep in our sleeping bags with us if we were scared. We went trick-or-treating together. We survived Catherine M. McGee Middle School, which is quite an accomplishment if I ever saw one. We've laughed together. We've cried together. We've laughed so hard that we cried together. We've been through endless drama together. We listened when someone called, just to vent all their frustrations that they couldn't keep bottled inside, and vice versa. We teased each other about who we had crushes on. We still remember each other's crushes from elementary school. We've learned from one another, grown from one another, and became the people that we are today because of each other. If it wasn't for my friends, good or bad, new or old, I can honestly say that I would have no idea who I am right now. Because I learn things about myself, and about life in general, from having been around these people, even if I'm not friends with them anymore. And the friends that I have now are probably the most amazing people in the world. I would not be the person that I am without them, so thanks, guys. But with that said, college lasts only four years. And during those four years, I'll obviously make new friends, and while those friendships will somehow be meaningful to my life, they won't mean nearly as much to me as my high school friends do. We've been through pretty much everything together. And as for these mystery friends of the future, they don't know me at all. It would take another 12 years for them to learn everything about me. And after those four short years in college come to a close, we'll (college friends) move on, and life our own, separate, lives. And my high school friends will be the ones that I'll be calling all the time, making sure that we don't drift apart. Because I don't understand some people. I don't understand how someone can leave high school, go somewhere really far away, and completely leave their old life behind. Because as much as someone may hate their past, it's part of who you are. And if you just forget about everything back home and try to start your life from scratch, then who are you??? I think everyone should try to find the answer to that question before they leave high school, that way life won't be as confusing in college. But not everyone does find the answer, unfortunately. And it hurts, because I want so badly to help my friends who are confused with their lives right now. I wish I could be a superhero sometimes, and just save everybody. But I can't. It's one of those things that you need to learn on your own, but it just really hurts seeing the people whom I care about so much so confused and making potentially bad choices in their lives. But, it is their life, after all. And on Sunday when I graduate, or even at the end of the summer, I'm not going to say good-bye to any of my friends. We'll all see each other again. True friendship is too strong of a bond to just break like that. Because I love all of my friends. I really do. And this isn't good-bye...
don't forget to forget you forgot me
'cause when i show up at your door
i'm gonna remember that you are my friend
and fall asleep on your floor
