Do your weakest sections first - use all the motivation and skill you've got to make the sections you're weakest in shine. Not only will it help you improve at writing those sections, but it should improve the quality of the app in all; the sections you're good at or know like the back of your hand should write themselves, and make for an awesome app in all. ♥ At least, that's how I see it.

Be detailed - it's way better to be extra detailed than to be not detailed enough. A mod would rather read a well written app than a poorly written one, after all. And it's better safe than sorry: if you aren't sure, put it in. Just make sure that you've fleshed out every section as much as you can...

But detailed doesn't mean tl;dr. If there's no upper word count limit, then just keep in mind that it can be really daunting for mods and other players alike to read your app if it's too long. Though longer is better than shorter ( ... )

Probably, my biggest bit of advice is to take your time on it, especially if you have a reserve or a grace period in which to get it in (and it's not "first come first serve"). An app that is turned in later but has far fewer errors and typos is much more likely to be accepted than one that is a slap-dash job but is submitted right when the application cycle first opens ( ... )

This might seem obvious, but if the comm has guidelines for the kind of information they like to see in apps, read them. If they have sample apps, even better! I read apps for my game and so many people don't seem to give our tips/guidelines more than a cursory glance, if that. It would save a lot of time if they did.

And do not be afraid to ask questions if you have them.

As an app-reader, I find it extremely helpful if people write theirs as though they are describing the character to someone who has never read/watched the series. Even if you know that someone on the app-reading staff knows the series, do it anyway; the others are just as likely to not know the first thing about it. Yes, even if it's a popular and beloved series like Harry Potter, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist or Naruto (because not everyone has read or watched it ( ... )

Seconded so much.

Additionally, if you're going to use a bit of new terminology that someone who doesn't know the canon won't know what it is, please, please, please explain it at the first possible moment, not the last. It's quite frustrating reading an app and thinking 'wtf is a IPEdinger' and searching for info on said IPEdinger on the internet, only to find an explanation at the bottom of the app.
