Some games do require this, but many don't- either way, it helps a lot, especially if the canon is obscure, has a huge cast, and/or has a lot of confusing terminology specific to it. It doesn't HAVE to be tl;dr, I know some games have a word limit on their apps, just a brief elaboration. To use a short and generic-named example, say you have a character Alice. Writing "Alice is the opposite in personality of her canonmate Bob" means nothing to someone who has no idea who Bob is, whereas a statement like "Alice is the opposite of Bob, who is always warm, friendly and cheerful", or better yet, eliminating the comparison and stating "Alice is cold, calculating and brutal in dealing with others" is much better.
I get lost on so many apps because they read like the writer expects the reader to be an expert on canon, so it makes it a slog to get through, and IME it can take longer to process if the mod staff has to find an expert for a fact check (no, Wikipedia is often not sufficient).

Additionally, if you're going to use a bit of new terminology that someone who doesn't know the canon won't know what it is, please, please, please explain it at the first possible moment, not the last. It's quite frustrating reading an app and thinking 'wtf is a IPEdinger' and searching for info on said IPEdinger on the internet, only to find an explanation at the bottom of the app.
