McCain Bashing D&D players

Aug 21, 2008 11:08

ok, so this isn't exactly discussing game issues, but i feel this discussion needs to be made. McCain launches an attack on a specific group of people without a real connection being made, and i'm wondering if anyone can shine some light on this. Leave a comment

I can shine some light on it:

The man is an asshat.

Your title is false, your information is incorrect and either purposefully misleading or indicative of poor reading comprehension.

It wasn't McCain who wrote it. It's a political blogger, Michael Goldfarb.

I mean, have you ever read Michael Goldfarb?

His tongue-in-cheek apology is hilarious.

"If my comments caused any harm or hurt to the hard working Americans who play Dungeons & Dragons, I apologize. This campaign is committed to increasing the strength, constitution, dexterity, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma scores of every American. "

no, i hadn't, however it was presented as mccain's statement, notice the "quotations that appear to simulate a statement by john mccain" so i was posting it as i read it, and as i am not one who reads michael goldfarb, i didn't see any other statements made by him. thanks for shining some light on the situation as i had asked.

oh, and secondly, even if the man himself didn't blame the pro-obama dungeons and dragons crowd, his campaign did. anything said by his campaign is a a statement from him. because he appointed those people and therefore responsibility for their statements rests on him

Michael Goldfarb, one of McCain's aides, in typical political toede fashion, is doing the mud-slinging his boss would like to do but for which he can't take the heat during a major political campaign. He's doing two things here that make me uncomfortable (not that I'd vote for the flesh & blood version of Abe Simpson anyhow ( ... )

1) Very well put. You stated it about a thousand times clearer than I could.
2) Thanks for the tangent; now I know where to send the 3.0/3.5 books I don't want to use again. Much appreciated.

Thanks so much for the kind words. Most churches, synagogues, and community outreach centers either have regular packages being shipped to the near-combat bases in Iraq and Afganistan. If not, they'll likely know someone who is sending such packages. I've heard that Afganistan troops are particularly in need of goods that remind them of home, as their struggle is often forgotten in the face of Iraq's notoriety ( ... )

Bam. Without any comment on politics, I know A LOT of servicemen that play role-playing games. It gets them the FUCK AWAY from danger for a while. So, way to go asshole, you just isolated American Soldiers.

He's still playing 1st edition.

"4th Edition has been dumbed down for modern players. I was a POW you know. Modern music these days? Rock and roll is Satan's music! Ooh, those Beetles, corrupting the youth of today."

The bigger story here is that McCain blatantly lied about his story. He basically stole it wholesale from a book detailing time in a Soviet gulag. Of course, the right wing Christian extremists don't care. They're eating it up. All they care about is telling women what they can do with their bodies and keeping teh gays down.

Clearly the bigger story is that an aide took a shot at gamers. (Tongue retreats from cheek).

Quoted for baseless conspiracy mongering that should make the author ashamed of him/herself.

"Of course, the right wing Christian extremists don't care. They're eating it up. All they care about is telling women what they can do with their bodies and keeping teh gays down."

Quoted for bigotry, blanket labeling, and general stupidity.

Just because it's a conspiracy theory, dosn't make it not true.
Just because someone is prejudiced dosn't make them not right.
