McCain Bashing D&D players

Aug 21, 2008 11:08

ok, so this isn't exactly discussing game issues, but i feel this discussion needs to be made. McCain launches an attack on a specific group of people without a real connection being made, and i'm wondering if anyone can shine some light on this. Leave a comment

Your title is false, your information is incorrect and either purposefully misleading or indicative of poor reading comprehension.

It wasn't McCain who wrote it. It's a political blogger, Michael Goldfarb.

I mean, have you ever read Michael Goldfarb?

His tongue-in-cheek apology is hilarious.

"If my comments caused any harm or hurt to the hard working Americans who play Dungeons & Dragons, I apologize. This campaign is committed to increasing the strength, constitution, dexterity, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma scores of every American. "

no, i hadn't, however it was presented as mccain's statement, notice the "quotations that appear to simulate a statement by john mccain" so i was posting it as i read it, and as i am not one who reads michael goldfarb, i didn't see any other statements made by him. thanks for shining some light on the situation as i had asked.

oh, and secondly, even if the man himself didn't blame the pro-obama dungeons and dragons crowd, his campaign did. anything said by his campaign is a a statement from him. because he appointed those people and therefore responsibility for their statements rests on him

"and i'm wondering if anyone can shine some light on this."

And shed some light you did, though not without being a superior snot.

Way to go.

Five hundred threads in forum-land about how McCain showed up at GenCon and slapped the taste out of every gamer's mouth ... and I'm being a snot? Sure, I'll accept the mantle.

*shrug*

I'll admit to not trolling the intarweb forums for news (with pleasure), but yeah- you have the self-righteous thing down.

I guess it had to come in handy some day.

All the same, I would argue that "hard working Americans" is a euphemism for "the good folk who keep their heads down, don't back-talk or question authority, and would never dream of forming a labor union." So, in the mind of Michael Goldfarb, you can play D&D as long as it distracts you from the hijacking of political power by corporate entities, the disappearance of the middle-class, and the strangulation of equal social rights.
