Hayako Sensei, Kekkon Surutte Hontou Desu Ka?

It's been a while since I've posted. RL has been busy and I've been feeling lazy. I watched this a couple of months ago when it was airing on my local Japanese cable station. I didn't really know what to expect from this show. I like Matsushita Nao and I figured this was a typical "chick"-type of drama. And for the most part it was.

Basically, this was a show about 30-something teachers who are looking for their marriage partner. They form an "alliance" to support one another. The other teachers, Kanjiya Shihori's Mika-sensei and Sato Hitomi's Umeko-sensei, were quite likeable. I liked how these three ladies became closer as the show progressed and how they really supported one another in their search for Mr. Right. It was also cool to have Tanaka Kei and Narimiya Hiroki as guest stars. As soon the show progressed and each teacher found their soulmate, I found myself cheering for Hayako-sensei to find her Mr. Right.

Hayako-sensei lived at home with her parents who run a tofu shop. I really liked the interaction with the family and how they cheer for one another. The relationship Hayako-sensei had with the customer with the red umbrella was sweet, although it did seem like he was too old for her. But I'm also realizing that in Japan relationships like this are quite common. The show didn't end with all of the women finding their Knight in Shining Armor and I felt a little disappointed with that. But I guess in real life, not all of us are able to find Mr. Right, but in the process we learn a lot about of ourselves too.

Theme song was Sore de Shiawase by chay. The only song I am familiar with is the theme song from Date. I guess it was okay, I don't even remember how much it added to the show.

Rating: 7 out of 10
