Samurai Sensei

Second drama review for a Nishikido Ryo. Not intentional, totally coincidental. This drama was aired on my local Japanese cable station. I was quite interested in this one. Time slip dramas are always fun to watch and this is actually the second time slip show that I watched that has Nishikido in it. Also, I really enjoyed watching the taiga drama, Ryomaden, so I was familiar with Takechi Hanpeita. I thought it would be interesting to watch something from his point of view.

This drama was very enjoyable to watch. Nishikido was great as Takechi. I'm really starting to appreciate him as an actor. In my opinion, as I mentioned in my previous post, he doesn't have a very engaging personality when watching him on variety shows, but he's enjoyable to watch in dramas and movies. Kamiki Ryunosuke was good as Ryoma too. I'm a Fukuyama Masaharu dai-fan so it was hard to compare Kamiki to Masha. But he did well for a modern-day Ryoma. The rest of the cast was great to watch too. Higa Manami was very fun to watch as the unwilling "assistant" to Hanpeita and Ryoma's adventures. Eight episode seems too short for such a fun drama to watch. That might be the only disappointing point to this. Although I don't know how much more they could've done to add to the show. It definitely made me want to watch Ryomaden again. Although I don't know if I'll be able to do that anytime soon. There are so many other dramas that I want to watch.

Theme song was Kanjani8's Samurai Song. Okay, to be honest, I'm not the biggest Kanjani8 fan. Sorry, to all the other fans out there..... But this song was quite fitting for the drama. Of course, it was done specifically for drama and it's not going to turn me into the biggest Kanjani fan, but I can't complain about it.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Next drama: Hayako Sensei, Kekkon Surutte Hontou Desu Ka?

kamiki ryunosuke, samurai sensei, higa manami, nishikido ryo, drama review, j-drama
