I've had a week, mostly consisting of work.
Friday, I went to KGB's to be a kid again again agian, and drew lots of pictures.
Last night, there was a Beaux Arts Ball. I went as Cobweb from Midsummer Night's Dream, much thanks to lea, who made the costume for Lunar Gala (CMU's student run fashion show.) I had silver SHINY PANTS with cuffs held up by chains and a red LED bedecked circlet and chest thing that became a belt, and I made myself a sabretache (can you tell I've been reading Gene Wolfe?) from some extra material for holding my camera and phone. Akiva was Moth with blue fur and glowing wings and antennae, with lea being something resembling a bug zapper (also with glowing).
I went to the Ball with Emily, which was quite enjoyable. Akiva, lea, Chrisamaphone and I spent about an hour and a half beforehand getting our costumes ready. Then Chris ran off to do stuff before she went, and Akiva, lea and I went off to the Ball.
The first half hour or so was pretty boring. We wandered around in an incredibly crowded hall and occasionally ran into people we knew. I eventually found Emily. However, only the bottom floor was open to people under 21 (or people, such as I, who had neglected to bring ID), which was a pretty dumb policy, as that was at least half the people, but it turned out ok.
After this, I went to hear the Originals sing, and then an impromptu Counterpoint concert in the basement due to scheduling mishaps. Then Em and I looked around for a while, watched a bit of Metropolis (no, the silent film, not the anime) and then danced. A lot. It has been far too long since I danced. Eventually we found Julie and Misha, and they danced too.
Finally, at about 1:20, we left. Emily went home, and I went back to Maggie Mo to change and leave my costume for lea. Then I found Julie and Misha in the Wean cluster and we went back to Sherbrook and ate ice cream and all fell asleep watching The Dancer Upstairs.
Overall, the ball was excellent. There some some amazing costumes, including a tree, a host of various sorts of angels (one of whom was Chrisamaphone), at least two fairies (one was me!), a lamp (Dave!), a girl dressed in what appeared to be saran wrap (a lot of it), Misha in a rather floofy dress, Julie in a redcoat, two guys in white coats with christmas lights underneat that shone through, two people in great lizard masks, and stupid many others. And dancing is awesome.
Pictures later tonight, hopefully.
Today, work!
