The netbook part II

My new netbook ("Nettie") so far performs very well. I can't figure out how to change the desktop background (there isn't an option in the usual places) but that's a pretty minor complaint. I'm starting to think that I can't because it only came with "Windows 7 Starter", which is kind of lame that you can't change something so basic. But whatever. Small complaint.

But I love the size. It's so light and small that I can fit it into one of my larger purses and have taken it out several times already.

The main thing I was concerned about with a netbook was the keyboard. I have long fingers and make mistakes enough on a normal-sized keyboard. But so far, I haven't had any trouble at all with the netbook's keyboard. A few mistakes relating to different key placement (the "home" and "end" buttons are in completely different spots from my other laptop) but otherwise, I'm very pleased.

The internet connection seemed to be slightly more sluggish than what I was used to, but nothing to speak of. Waiting an extra second for a page to load isn't much to complain about. And it also starts up slower, but again, a little patience for an extra few seconds isn't that bad.

The long and short of it is that I wanted it as a writing laptop; a convenient way to get away from my apartment without lugging my 15.4" laptop along and it's filling that purpose very well.

However, since writing the above, I've discovered a problem: my power cord is no longer powering up the battery. The light on the AC pack is on, but the light on the computer showing that it's charging is not. This is a problem and between work and tests at the hospital and getting my wisdom teeth out, I don't have the time to deal with it this week.

Luckily, the thing is still new and I should be able to get a replacement power cord without a problem. Assuming that the problem is the power cord and not the battery. I wish I knew how to tell for sure. *sigh*
