I like lists, so here we go. Today, I learned/discovered several things that surprised me
1) A very very smart friend also got rejected from the same grad school I did. This again makes me wonder what on EARTH their standards are.
2) Some of our IWU faculty really do care about us. Tremendously. One prof met me for lunch because she thought, due to several events, I might be feeling a bit down (I'm fine :-) and she wanted to offer encouragement. That's really quite generous and appreciated.
3) I received news today that some of you already know, rather big (good?) news, that I am reluctant to post here quite yet because that will make it much more real if I see it in print. Hopefully I'll get to see/talk to those I haven't yet.
4) Yesterday I learned that a Spanish man owns Latte Time and serves cafe con leche that tastes exactly like what I had in Spain. He also willingly talked in Spanish with a friend of mine and I for a while and did not hurry us out of the cafe even after he was clearly closing. On a similar note, I should not drink said wonderful coffee as late as I did if I hope to sleep! I also went to a Mexican restaurant and spoke with the waiters in Spanish, and one of them asked if I were Spanish, based on my accent. Few questions, silly as they were, could make me happier.
