So, the weekend came and went...

Apparently, updating LJ on a Saturday is not yet so much of a routine that I do it automatically, so I'm doing it today instead of working on Mannerley.

Last Sunday was the grandson's 9th birthday. He had a party on the Saturday but the husband, son and I chose to avoid the screaming kids and went on the day itself. We had to get a taxi due to having two bulky and fairly heavy parcels - an electric scooter and a proper goal. The scooter (which was a 'cheap' version at over £50 - WTF?!) has since fallen apart and is now winging its way back to the person who sold it to me. Just hope the parcel tape survives the experience...

Spent a couple of hours assembling the goal and trying to keep the dog from fighting with the net and then we came home.

Had my follow-up appointment at the dentist on Thursday and now have an appointment booked for removal of the troublesome wisdom tooth. Said removal will be done under local anaesthetic, which makes me nervous but the dentist said the roots looked fairly square so it shouldn't be too difficult. We shall see. But I have the two days after the extraction booked off work, so at least I'll have chance to recover.

On Friday, a senior colleague landed a piece of work on me that I thought would only take an hour, maybe two, but ended up lasting all day and I still didn't finish it! At 5.30pm I admitted defeat and decided that it was Monday's problem. Yesterday, I picked it up, detangled the tangle I'd got into that was the reason I hadn't finished it, and got it tidied up all in about an hour. One thing I know about my brain is when it's just not going to get any more done because it's tired. Give it a rest and it'll steam through the problem like it isn't even there.

Go brain!

Last weekend, the grandson and I met up with my mother and step-father so that they could get him something for his birthday. He'd decided against a new scooter by the time we got into town, so they got him two nice big toy cars (he seems to be getting back into his cars) and some bright orange trainers (he chose them!). Then they went off to spend the day on Wirral, so I took him round the shops for a bright yellow ball (looks sooo nice with the trainers!) and a Liverpool top.

I've kind of set myself the task of collecting 10 of every kind of monster in FFX, which basically means I don't really want to play it at the moment because hunting down those last 4 Simurghs (sp) isn't much fun. But I think I need to do the monster collecting (or at least some of it) for some article of Yuna's for the secret Aeons. The alternative tasks I have at my disposal are dodging lightning, chasing butterflies and training chocobos, all of which require my brain to be alert - which it usually isn't when I'm playing games after work.

Instead of playing FFX, I'm watching Star Trek:TNG series 2, which has some of the episodes I remember most - The Child and Elementary, My Dear Data - but which have disappointed me a little. In both cases, the ending seemed really rushed, like the writers realised that they were running out of time on the episode and had to wrap it up quickly. Most of the others have been OK, though. Loud as a Whisper was especially good.

Still no news on when Doctor Who is going to be on again...

I'm working my way through The Curse of Mannerley Manor removing Mrs Cunningham from the action. She's still a character but she is stuck in Shropshire with a heavy cold. Part of me wonders if I should have left Mrs Harte behind, but I do like the reveal of the curse coming through Mrs C's letter. Certainly, having one less character to deal with has given Dr Lassiter a bit more room! Overall, I think it's working.

And that's all for now, LJ. See you Saturday (maybe...)
