Sunday I was at St Michael's. It was the anniversary of the death of 'one of their own' and his family were there who all said nice things about the way I led the service. It always amuses me that people say nice things about how well I can read somebody else's words out loud. But I suppose there are people who don't conduct services very well - God knows I've come across enough of them. There's definitely a knack of sorts to it but mostly I'm just grateful that I have a talent for it.
The week was pretty blah as far as work was concerned. Nothing brilliant, nothing terrible. Just stuff keeping me busy from 09.30 to 17.30. Had a 1-1 with my line manager and decided not to ask when there will be one or more permanent BA posts for me to apply for assimilation into. I should probably ask the question, though. I haven't got all of my evidence together but even when they decide to create the post(s) it'll take ages for it all to go through. I think I should definitely ask the question at the next meeting.
I got permission to go on a day trip to Birmingham - woo!
UCISA's Project and Change Management Group are having a day conference on change management, including a session on the 'dark arts of the BA', so I'm really looking forward to it. Was a bit of a nightmare getting it booked, though. I needed a purchase order number that I couldn't get for myself; I had to get a finance person to do it. But it's booked and I've asked the team administrator to book the train tickets, so that's all good.
And my Surface is on order. I'm beyond excited about it. When it arrives, the techy people will set up my own desktop on it, so it'll be like taking my PC with me wherever I go - with the functionality of a tablet and the portability of a laptop - three machines in one! It's about the same cost as a desktop AND a tablet but it outdoes them both.
I've been chipping away at Mannerley and I've only got a couple of chapters left for this first pass. I've done all of the reorganising, which has been far more difficult than I thought it would be but it feels good to have got it done. The next chapter needs a bit of enhancement and I think the last one will be pretty much OK as it is. The next step will then be to go through it all again and add in lots of stuff - like the romance between Valentina and Dr Lassiter, which is supposed to be a big part of Valentina's arc but is currently non-existant! After that, I'll do a third pass to make sure it all still hangs together and then start sending it out to my wonderful Betas.
In FFX, I'm doing some monster capturing for the Blossom Crown. I tried dodging lightning and chasing butterflies the other day but got absolutely nowhere with both. I might have another go on Monday when I'm off work for the Bank Holiday.
My plan to outwit capitalism has yielded a suit (trouser legs were a bit long so I had to take them up), five tops (all wearable but a three of them are little bit tight), a dress that makes a good long top and four pairs of jeans (two wearable, the other two not). Another top and pair of jeans have just arrived, so I'll try them on in a sec. Tomorrow, we try the Freecycle Table at church for the first time - I'll be donating one of the pairs of jeans!
And that's my week. Bye for now, LJ.
