Congratulations on being a Real Librarian! Has your Slayer been assigned to you yet? Does your library have an adequate selection of crossbows and holy water alongside the books for dogs?

Welcome back to LJ!!! Tumblr is addictive. Even though I feel like LJ is a far better platform for things I care about, like real conversation, privacy controls, and words in general, I still end up spending more time on tumblr. Why, brain? I turned off endless scrolling over there ages ago because it caused me to go into an even deeper time-sucking trance. Anyway, I don't make many posts over here, but I try to stay active about reading my flist and occasionally posting. While no longer the epicenter of fandom, LJ still has plenty of life if one knows where to look.

Woohoo, cons! I love actually getting to be in the same physical space as so many geekfolk. I've never actually been on a panel, so I don't have any advice for that, and sadly I won't be attending norwescon myself. Curse my lack of a TARDIS! However, I believe that dameruth/Argyle4eva usually goes to that con, and I can vouch that she's a quality human.

As for what's going on with me, today a bird crapped on my head. However, I was wearing a sensible broad-brimmed hat and it clearly wasn't a large bird, so it wasn't a calamity. That event is actually a pretty good metaphor for my life right now.

Congratulations on being a Real Librarian!

Thank you!

My Slayer is willful and rebellious and she keeps insisting that she just wants to be a normal girl, which is ridiculous, of course. Not only that, but I also have to deal with her quirky friends and their shenanigans . I spend a great deal of time cleaning my glasses.

I really have to start using LJ more. I so rarely contribute original content to tumblr because it just doesn't seem necessary; the whole point of posting something is to have a conversation about it with everyone afterward, and it's so awkward to do that on tumblr.

You know, I'm pretty sure dameruth and I are on a couple of panels together! I recognized her username straight off, of course, from Teaspoon and all her wonderful Doctor Who fic. I shall have to bug her about it before the con and ask her to bestow her wisdom. ;)

Personally, I think it's amazing that the day a bird chose to crap on your head you were wearing a hat. That seems like amazing luck to me. Of course, maybe you (unlike myself) frequently wear hats, in which case you have clearly proved their value.

I got crapped on by a squirrel once. It wasn't fun.

I'm sure that librarian school has amply prepared you for dealing with headstrong Slayers, quirky youths, and marathons of glasses-cleaning. Just try to minimize the number of times you're knocked unconscious.

I habitually wear a hat when I'm at work. I'm an environmental educator, so I spend a lot of time outdoors and need the protection from sun, windy hair, and (I now see) vengeful songbirds.

Over the years I've been crapped on by a fair amount of birds and the occasional snake, but never by a squirrel. That's impressive! You win, or perhaps you lose. If any of the kids I'm teaching get pooped on by an animal I tell them they get to make a wish, so I think the universe owes you a rather significant wish for that incident.

It is weird that I'm jealous that you've been crapped on by a snake? It is weird, isn't it. SNAKES ARE JUST SO COOL.

Still, though. Poop is poop. Maybe snake poop isn't all that special.

Also, your job sounds awesome.
