To Be A Man

► These weekend depression and anxiety spells are getting annoying. Hard to relax or sleep when your heart keeps pounding and you keep thinking of your loneliness. Eh, hell with that self pity crap.

► Last month Facebook introduced a new flash game called Marvel: Avengers Alliance. I only just found out about it a couple of weeks ago when my friend Matt sent me an invite. In that time I've become addicted to the game. So much so that I've actually spent some real world money to get a few characters in the game. While I occasionally feel foolish about that, Dean keeps pointing out that since I enjoy the game so much and it's been a source of pleasure and distraction, and it's given me something to do, then it's not a problem. As she said, I'm not dating, drinking, smoking, or doing anything else, and the money I've used would have just gone toward more knick knacks to clutter my room anyway. Hard to argue against that.

In the game you start by creating a Shield agent as your avatar/lead character (mine of course is a redheaded woman, as always), and you "recruit" various Marvel heroes. At the start you automatically recruit Iron Man, and then through story reasons get Black Widow and Hawkeye (no doubt to familiarize the public with the characters before the upcoming Avengers movie opens). After that you're free to get characters as you wish using "Command Points" you earn or exchange gold for (I had paid for the virtual gold to buy the points). Characters cost anywhere from 15, 23, 33, 48, or 90 points. Since starting the game I've accumulated a team of (in order of how I got them) Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Sif, Captain America, Phoenix (Jean Grey), Spider-Woman, Kitty Pryde, Black Cat, Invisible Woman, and Thor.

Captain America was my first big purchase, and he's by far my favourite character in the game, which isn't a surprise. She-Hulk would be my second favourite in the game but I've been using her less and less as I've been trying to level up all the characters I've gained since. I'm really liking the game a lot.Matt: Gonna have that conversation from Seinfeld where they were like, "Were not men, we're boys!"
Derek: "No, we're not men!"

Derek: okay, time to test Cap's shield throw
Matt: But I feel like I'm making a big point of laying this out to her before I do anything else.
Derek: ....
Derek: 3 dead AIM agents in 1 move
Derek: AWESOME!
Matt: AWESOME
Derek: :'-D
Matt: We are boys
Derek: I'm perfectly comfortable with that
Derek: otherwise I wouldn't have a Winnie the Pooh doll in my bedroom
Derek: (sits on my long box)
Matt: You are sort of psycho like Christopher Robin
Derek: lol
Derek: CAP DID IT AGAIN!
Selena Gomez Calls Kissing Justin Bieber On Kiss Cam 'Humiliating' (VIDEO) - Hey, no one's forcing her to date him.

The Telegraph: Bollywood actress kidnapped and beheaded by actors - God, that's horrible. Just... ugh. I'm not trying to be funny or make light of this, but I imagine a Bollywood musical adaption of this crime won't be far off.

EOnline Ask the Answer Bitch: Why Is NCIS So Popular? - I was going to say "that's what I want to know", but really I don't care. I've tried watching NCIS in the past and I just can not accept Michael Weatherly's character. How he somehow manages to retain his job and position in this day and age despite sexually harassing the female coworkers, bullying others, stalking and spying on them all, and constantly screwing around is beyond me. One episode I caught had him openly reading porno magazines in front of others in the office. Seriously? The guy is in desperate need of a punch in the face.

EW: Johnny Depp reveals origins of Tonto makeup from 'The Lone Ranger' -- EXCLUSIVE - From the article:For his part, Depp has said his motivation to play the character came from disliking how Tonto was relegated to subservience in the old Clayton Moore/Jay Silverheels TV series. While the look may not be historically authentic, Depp wants Tonto’s character to be honorable and self-reliant.

“The whole reason I wanted to play Tonto is to try to [mess] around with the stereotype of the American Indian that has been laid out through history, or the history of cinema at the very least - especially Tonto as the sidekick, The Lone Ranger’s assistant,” Depp told EW. “As you’ll see, it’s most definitely not that.”
I appreciate and respect that, and believe that Tonto should be shown as a partner and equal to The Lone Ranger, but as I've said before my fear are comments in the past that indicate Depp and the filmmakers intend to raise Tonto while diminishing the Lone Ranger, portraying him as either a hapless or hopeless buffoon. The property is still titled "The Long Ranger" and I don't want to see him thrown under the bus.

Emma Watson gets a bad-girl makeover for ‘The Bling Ring’ movie - I meant to post this last week but was distracted by the whole "not posting" thing. Anyway, here are some of the delicious Emma Watson badgirl pics:

Quote of the Moment

Captain Hook: Growing up is such a barbarous business, full of inconvenience and pimples. Things were simpler when I was younger. And then the mess starts, the feelings come. Pan is so lucky to be untroubled by them. Oh, no. He cannot love. It's part of the riddle of his being.
- Peter Pan (2003)
