Bloody Hell...
► And so the postal strike is on, and a couple hundred dollars worth of packages I'm waiting for now hang in limbo*, with my not knowing when or even if I'll ever get them. Great idea on the postal worker union, show Canada Post you mean business by punishing the customers. Such bullshit.
This day has sucked, and I'm depressed. Angry too. Sometimes you just want to punch the tide.
* I keep thinking of all those drawings as hostages, however ridiculously melodramatic or hyperbolic that may be.
► On top of the above, I have a tension headache, a welt behind my left ear, and there was a teensy bit of blood in one of my biological functions this afternoon (I'm not saying which*; it was a teeny amount but enough to disturb me). I need to calm down.
* I was probably a little too vigorous in my enjoyment of a video chat session.
► Plus-sized model Tara Laughton. Why is a size 12 considered "plus-sized"? It should be considered "totally awesome-sized".
► Flashpoint #2 Variant Cover Is Pretty Messed Up - Wonder Woman holding up the severed head of Mera. Nice work DC! That's sure to delight any children who might happen to walk into the comic book store. It's 2011 and they still seem oblivious as to what might get them accusations of misogyny.
I'm not so bothered by Mera's death in this since Flashpoint is an alternate timeline in a continuity that's about to be completely rendered pointless come August 31st. That said, I won't be saving this cover to my Mera pic folder.
► DC Relaunch: DC Women To Wear Trousers - Is it hypocritical of me to have said the above and to be disappointed at this? They really are making Power Girl redundant in the new DC.
► DC Relaunch: Batgirl #1 and Nightwing #1 UPDATE - Grant Morrison writing Superman, and now Barbara Gordon back as Batgirl? DC may succeed in getting me to add new comics to my pull list! Granted, my pull list is only four comics, one of which (Power Girl) seems less and less likely to survive the reboot.
Of course, with the talk of new origins, ethnicities and ages, Babs might not even really be Babs anymore. Have to wait for the September solicitations in a few weeks.
► What's the No. 1 Comic-Book Movie? Well, It's Not Watchmen or Even Conan - I wouldn't have thought Conan at all since, you know, it was first and foremost a book series. Also I'm amazed that they list Watchmen at all, least they sully the list with [shudders] superheroes.
► 10 Best Postapocalyptic Movies - I saw On The Beach on PBS back when I was 12 or 13. Talk about depressing.
► Playboy: Hierarchy of Hair Down There (**Not Safe For Work**) - I'll take the Triangle, Wispy, Snowman, Scatter Shot, and, most definitely, Overflow, please.
► The big list: Female teachers with students, Most comprehensive account on Internet of women predators on campus - God, there are a lot... I've always found it curious that for decades we've been told girls mature faster than boys. Yet when a male teacher seduces a female student we react with horror and screams for castration because girls are delicate innocents that need to be protected, while female teachers seducing male students is met with comments of envy and how great it is for the boys. Sadly, I'm not immune to that, as I'd like a few of these educators to take advantage of me.
I want detention. :-(
