Things Might Work Out After All

► Still having trouble sleeping this week. Just general anxiety I guess.

► I had a bit of a surprise yesterday. As I've mentioned ad nauseum this week, yesterday was the first day of the Canada Post strike. So, of course, we didn't get any mail that afternoon and absolutely no parcels are being processed or delivered. So it was very surprising when at 8:30am I took a glance out of our front door and sitting on the welcome mat was one of my Ebay packages. Specifically, my heretofore unmentioned V For Vendetta Guy Fawkes mask I bought a couple of weeks ago (at least I don't remember mentioning it).

Checking the packaging there were no Canada Post processing stickers, just a USPS First Class invoice sticker. I still have the boxes and packages from several other parcels I've received in the past year. Examining them, I found that not a single one shipped USPS First Class had any Canada Post processing stickers. The only ones that did came from the DHL shipping company, or from inside of Canada.

I then checked all of the art I bought on Ebay and found most of the items were to ship USPS First Class (with one listed as USPS Priority)*. Now I have no idea if USPS parcels bypass Canada Post or how they get here, but my guess is that I may actually receive most of my packages while the strike continues on. At least that's my hope. It certainly seems reasonable, except for one confusing bit: The mini movie posters I ordered two months ago were shipped USPS First Class, but were delivered to my mail box with the mail. So I don't know for sure.

Still, I now feel a bit more optimistic, and I'll know for sure if the drawings start showing up next week.

* A couple of sketch cards are coming from England via "standard international postage", and I think the John Wayne tin sign I ordered for Dad for Father's Day is coming DHL, although looking at the status page for that order it says "final delivery of this package will be done by the US Post Office". Guess I'll have to wait and see.

► From chat:Derek: hmm
Derek: someone started a thread on a forum titled "boared"
Derek: I wonder if they meant "board" or "bored"
Derek: or if they were attacked by a boar

Tony Bedard Tackles "Emperor Aquaman" and "War of the Green Lanterns Aftermath" - From the interview:Readers know Aquaman and Wonder Woman were once meant to be married for political reasons, but where does Mera fit in to all this?

Aquaman's heart belongs to Mera, who has emerged as one of the most interesting and powerful women in the DC Universe.
"...which is why we had her decapitated." I kid! I kid!

Batman: Bat-Fail (comic strip) - Maybe not especially clever, but it still made me laugh.

Life Size Dalek Replica - Available to order. Yet another thing to add to my "when I win the lottery" list.

Super Punch: Advertisement for Han Solo Shipping - An amusing mock poster advertisement.

Film on Paper - A website documenting classic movie posters. Shame they don't have downloadable scans, but it's still pretty cool.

Stellar Trailer For Cannes Hit THE ARTIST - The Artist, a new French romantic film that's apparently getting a lot of buzz at the Cannes film festival. The movie is set from 1927 to 1931 when silent film Hollywood switched to talkies. I'm blown away at how flawlessly the film emulates the actual look and feel of movies of the period. It looks beautiful. I wonder if it'll get a release in North America.

Quote of the Moment

Scarlett: As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill. As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again.
