It's summer. I'm actually living here in Greenville like I said I would last summer. I have a job working in the mail room of the main library, which basically means I do whatever the library needs. I'm it's bitch...kind of fun, kind of not. But I'm working M-F, 9-5 so I'm making good money. I'm living off-campus with Mike and Christina and we're having a grand ole' time. I'm really enjoying myself and I'm having a productive summer. I'm making good money, practicing a TON, and actually reading! I'm so excited to be reading again. I haven't actually read a book for leisure since the Harry Potter series. I just finished a collection of short stories called "The Whore's Child." It was really interesting and I enjoyed the stories. They were weird and captivating. They made me want more after the story was over. I love books like that!!
So after spring term, I'm officially a clarinet performance major. I passed my sophomore jury with straight A's. I was proud of myself for actually getting something done and kicking myself in the ass. I have a B- overall GPA right now which is not bad at all. I'm going to work hard next term to bring it up and I'm really working hard on my practicing. I've got a regular schedule going and I can tell it's paying off. I really want to make FSO next term, which really means I want to be first or second chair in the Wind Ensemble. I know I can do it and I just need to actually do it to prove it. The audition music isn't too bad. The orchestral excerpts are pretty easy, but the solo proves more difficult. Come August I'll have it down though.
So I'm pretty sure my life is on the right track for once. I'm doing what I love and getting better every day. It's a good feeling to actually see progress! Oh, and what's even better? I'm taking lessons from both Chesebro and Hicken this summer! It's been the most enriching summer I've ever had. I'm so eager and excited to learn from both of these men. I'm fired up for clarinet and I don't want to ever burn out.
I must be getting to bed...I have work at 9 in the morning, but I get up to practice at 8. Yay!
