After Judgement Day

The wind whipped around them, sleeking their well-worn clothes flush against their backs. "Almost got it," Connor said.

"There're snipers patroling the area," Derek said. "If we can shut down this Skynet node before it finishes coming online, we'll have dealt it a blow it might not be able to recover from."

"Is that the opinion of the great John Connor?" Helen asked.

"Does it matter?" Nick asked.

The back door of the nascent Skynet opened. "That wasn't me," Connor said.

Out the door stepped a guard dressed in much the same unwashed, wrinkled, and faded clothes as everyone else here but Helen. The guard looked at the guns that everyone but Helen was carrying - Judgement Day or not, Helen had never hefted a gun before, never felt it warranted.

"It's okay," Nick said to the guard. Giving Derek a warning look, "We're not going to hurt you."

The unarmed guard looked at Nick. A look that turned into a fire-glowing-red-eyed stare.

Before Derek could draw his gun, Nick collapsed, a hole shot neatly through his skull.

Helen, Connor, and hte others scattered; some where picked off by Terminators, others by Hunter-Killers.

And Helen made it to an Anomaly in time. "Nick," she half-winced, half-weeped once she was securely on the other side. A kombalago chirped in a nearby tree, unnoticed.

"Get a room," Becker told them.

The back door of the nascent Skynet opened. "That wasn't me," Connor said.

Out the door stepped a guard dressed in much the same unwashed, wrinkled, and faded clothes as everyone else here but Helen. The guard looked at the guns that everyone - even Helen was carrying - she had only used a gun once and only the once. You always valued humanity so highly, Nick, Helen thought to herself. You may not have been aware of your sacrifice, but I'll make sure they know.

Becker shot the guard right away, joined by Derek when the sound of bullets hitting metal was heard.

They got inside before the snipers could take aim.
