One of the cardinal rules of combat is "Never piss off a pregnant woman when she's holding a sword"

Quote of the Day: August 2, 2007
"Barbara Creed uses this idea to psychoanalyze the horror film and notes that all sorts of religious taboos, such as sexual perversion, physical decay and death, human sacrifice, murder, bodily wastes, the female body, incest, are things that threaten our identity as a member of humanity. We want to expel them behind a border which will protect us from them, but they are all part of who we are, so this process of expulsion has to be constant. Perverse sexual desires, our bodies themselves and their waste products, our own violence and ferocity, are all things we place beyond a border in order to preserve our humanity, but they constantly erupt inside that border."
-Rousseau and the Vampires: Toward a Political Philosophy of the Undead by Phillip Cole

Alright. So. Hottest July since sometime in the 1930s... second hottest ever. This my friends has caused a pain in the ass this weekend. See. We're going camping but there is now a fireban from Sundre southwest. We were going to go to Livingstone Gap, but it was under a complete fireban. So we looked around. Thought about Waiparous. Thought about Sibbald Flats. Thought about Ghost. Decided on Sibbald Flats. Now. This was all well and good... until... the fireban was extended. Now all are out... Waiparous. Sibbald Flats. Ghost. And, Livingstone Gap... choice number one... is CLOSED. A whole chunk of forest southwest of here is closed due to the risk. I've never actually heard of this happening before. Weird non?

So. Plans have once again changed. We're going northeast to Drumheller... not wilderness camping but still camping. The one problem... because of all these bans and closures... to guarantee a spot. we're going out tonight. We both work tomorrow... So. We'll be up at dawn to drive into the city and drive back out again after work... le sigh. The things you do for those you love.

just life, thoughts, on the road
