it's entirely typical that the western media interprets the events in iran right now as parallel to the revolution in 1979 -- it's a sensational headline, stating that iran (whose ideology is depicted as so entirely contrary to the west (which it's not, but that's another story)) is on the cusp of a major revolution.

but these are opposition protesters, not subversives -- mousavi is still part and pacel of the mullah system which by name is inherently authoritarian and autocratic and oligarchial. i suppose that to western bourgeois democratic societies, the idea that the ("legitimate") opposition could be so violently suppressed is more egregious than radicals and subversives being violently suppressed.

it also pisses me off that obama and our government were so quick to condemn the iranian government even *before* the police force started using live rounds -- protests suppressed by tear gas?? and rubber bullets?? oh no! heavens forbid! that would never happen in america or the west! except, oh wait, what the fuck i've been gassed and shot by rubber bullets in miami. what a fuckload of bullshit.

and what REALLY fucking pisses me off is that the western media has focused so single-mindedly on the iranian protests that they have barely even ACKNOWLEDGED the massacre of dozens of indigenous protesters in Peru, fighting for their land against the right-wing government of Peru who was trying to enforce an american-backed free trade agreement. but oh, they're just indians -- i guess they don't matter. fuckingfuckfuckfuckcccceraeh
