There are two things in life of which I'll never grow tired, and which I hope I'll get to do every now and then for many years to come:
1) Closing down the bar with a big group of friends. On a weeknight.
2) Buying the table a round "just because."
I did both of those last night. Damn, it was completely irresponsible, but it was one hell of a good time.
I got home from drill early, around 4pm, took a nap, and was convinced by Kelly to go out to
the bar early. She was starving, and was supposed to meet one of her old coworkers who's leaving town [which sucks, 'cause she's really sweet and totally adorable]. I bought the three of us Jäger for a toast, and then she headed out to make her last RVA rounds.
One by one, the usual crowd filtered in to join us. Matt came by first, and we comisserated on how I'm missing out on his two biggest pre-Florida events thanks to the Marines: Meat Fest 2008 and his going-away event, Stonewall Jackson's Foot Cavalry - Trail-boozing a Path Across the City of Richmond, One Drink at a Time. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention...
Hay guise. The Marines are activating me to Mississippi from 16 June until 15 August, just so I can miss all the cool summer things that are going on. kthx*.
Anyway. Our Julie came out next, and then Boy Dana [the not-bald one],
Mike, D.C. United Liz, Max, Hardcore Josh, and eventually Ice Cream Julie [who was still on the clock when we first showed up].
I'm not sure how to sum it all up. It was a Sunday, but the moment never arose when anyone felt like we needed to call it a night [well, Kelly had been up almost as early as me, and she had to get to bed]. Many PBRs were consumed, Dana bought a round of Orange Crushes, I got everyone Grape Nehis, and I'm just now remembering Josh getting us all Jim Beams straight [wow]. We gave each other shit, kvetched about being forced to watch Rock of Love [gag], cracked up, took pictures, told stories, did a Misfits sing-a-long. Before long, the lights came up, the cute waitress started calmly processing checks [I forgot how fast $80 can go in a night...] in between giving us mock-shit for being louder than any other table.
We attempted to hang out afterwards, but various parties got dispersed. I woke up sprawled across my couch at 7am - various others were passed out in other places around the apartment.
A sign of a night hard-lived and well-spent.
I love this city.
