Teddy seemed to like the new library. It was probably because of the bright colors, or maybe because of the quiet -- or because his nursery was all the way up on the fourth floor, away from everyone when he liked people so much. Of course, maybe it meant that Teddy was going to grow up a lot swottier than Harry was. He grinned and hoped Hermione didn't walk in and catch Teddy beating his hands against the pages of one of her books. Fortunately, she wouldn't be back from work for a while. He could get rid of any evidence before then.

And apparently, he couldn't go five minutes without thinking of Hermione.

He sighed and shook his head a little before he pulled a face at Teddy. Andy had dropped him off this morning, so Harry had him until this afternoon and would have hours to spare before the party later. Every time Teddy visited, it seemed to Harry that he was a little bigger and had a bit more hair. And, if he wasn't mistaken, he'd incorporated a new color, even if he couldn't control the way they changed. Harry lifted a hand to his head, then quickly pushed the book away when it looked like Teddy was going to drop one of his spit bubbles onto it. "Going to have to draw the line at drooling," he said when Teddy waved his little arms in protest. "I don't think that qualifies as reading. But, if you want I could read you something."

Teddy had other ideas, though, squirming and rolling himself to the side a little. Harry took this to mean that he wanted to crawl, and so he helped situate Teddy on his belly. It was kind of amazing to watch him learning new movements, even if it meant he had to be more careful about leaving things around, and Andy had said that Harry should encourage him whenever he could. Teddy scooted toward the book again, pulling himself along and bending his chubby knees. "Alright," Harry said, watching him closely, "but that book better be bone dry when you're done with it."

Lately, when he'd talk, it seemed more and more like Teddy was listening and understanding him. Sometimes he even tried to join in the conversation, but the sounds he made were still pretty indistinguishable.

Harry leaned back on his hand, stretching out his legs as he watched the baby, thinking that maybe he should have brought some toys in here. Before he could summon any, Dodger careened around the corner, bounding over to Harry. He'd had his walk before Teddy had got here and so Harry had trusted him to explore the house without making any smelly messes. Plus, he hadn't been sure how Teddy would react to Dodger, and vice versa. Now, though, it looked like they were going to meet after all.

He scooped Dodger up when he started to sniff around Teddy, not wanting them to get off on the wrong foot. One of the books he'd got for Christmas had gone over this, and the fact that dogs could sometimes get jealous when there was a baby in the house. Harry tried to remember what it had said as he scratched Dodger's belly and Teddy began to take an interest in the proceedings. He pushed himself forward onto his knees again and started to move back toward Harry again, blowing bubbles. He decided that Dodger was no less of a baby than Teddy was, really -- maybe they'd get on just fine.

They even both slobbered a bit too much.

"Right," he murmured when Teddy reached him. He leaned forward and placed Dodger carefully on the ground. He was gratified when Teddy smiled and extended a hand so that if could investigate the new addition. "So, this is Dodger, Teddy. He's part of the family now, so I figure you two should meet." When Dodger wagged his tail and barked, Harry cringed, anticipating Teddy to start crying or something, but he only laughed, his hair turning bright pink as he waved his fist. Dodger crept forward and licked said fist, which sent Teddy into squeals of delight.

Harry had to smile, watching them. Being quite fond of them both, he was happy to see them getting along.
